before I chnaged the oil I read the stick and it was reading at about 3/4ths. I drained the oil and put in about 4.5-5 qts in. I did a reading on the stick and its not even showing! well it is but at the very very bottom of the stick. I turned the key to accessory and the oil level gauge dropped down (i did not start the engine).

one thing I did notice is that when adding oil the oil was slow to go down that long tube, so I am just assuming that its going to take a little longer to get a good reading vs a car where the oil goes straight into the crankcase?

If you changed the filter and put 6 qts back in then it is full. Something not right with your stick. Not sure what you have that shows low oil level. You should have oil pressure gauge in your dash. After you strart your engine the oil will be lower on the dip stick, when engine cools back down. Oil has to travel a long ways in that little fill tube. It is slow. Nothing wrong there.

Dan if I knew I would have told you I've got a spot at the top of the driveway for a GMC or a guest room if you were on four wheels.

Well, heck, you're only 245 miles from here -- might as well come on over
for Valentine's Day. I'll let you commiserate with me about turning 76. :-(

We've got full hookups here or at the farm.

No problem Dan just let me know. Driveway is a little tricky for a GMC but we're only 5 miles off i65 south of Birmingham. Only about 4 miles south of the 65/459 intersection
