Dear Sirs, I searched the FAQ before sending in this question. Brake fluid is designated as DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5; and DOT 5.1. As I
understand it DOT 3, DOT 4; and DOT 5.1 are glycol-based and compatible with each other. DOT 5 is silicone based and NOT compatible
with DOT 3, DOT 4; or DOT 5.1. Please advise why the designation of DOT 5.1 was created for brake fluid when it is incompatible with
DOT 5 brake fluid? I believe this causes confusion and could easily result in incompatible brake fluids being mixed with disastrous
results. I would think that the DOT would not want to create confusion and that DOT 6 would have been a better name for DOT 5.1.
Regards, Rob Mueller
