After many frustrating attempts over the years to accurately determine
the correct length for booster-to-MC pushrods, I finally gave up on
modelling clay a couple of weeks ago. I spent a few minutes making an
easy-to-use and accurate gauge for the purpose.

I just posted photos at:

or

The captions should enable anyone to make and use it.

If the piston doesn't return all the way you can get some residual pressure on the master cylinder and the brakes. I recommend 0.015 inches (3.8mm) clearance between the end of the push rod and the piston.

think you mean 0.38 mm. 3.8mm is about 0.15 inches, or roughly 10 times
what the clearance should be. The pushrod should be 1/4mm to 1/2mm shorter
than the space available between the MC and booster. (0.010 to 0.020 inches)
