The last time I was by the author's place in Merrillville, IN, all of the GMC's in the back yard were cleaned out. One had been taken off of the frame and the frame was no where in sight. I only talked to them once and they were not friendly to me. So I never subscribed to their magazine.

Unfortunate that the individual who now owns the magazine rights is not rational in his estimated value of the back issues. These would be great, if reproduced on a DVD and sold to the GMC crowd, at a realistic price. As the crowd gets smaller, sad fact of life, their value depreciates. In a few years, they will just be historic paper.

I often thought they'd be worthwhile to scan...BUT...understand the owner doesn't care too much about leaving a legacy.

Ken, where we live, most are called convicts. Can only use that term for those who have been through the system, at least once, and found guilty or plead guilty.
Believe it or not, I have some of those as friends now. Learned a valuable lesson and became productive citizens.
If you can find those mags, buy them. I will let anyone who over nights in our driveway look through mine but they wont leave my home. Hours and hours of reading about what folks have done and where they have been. The magazine really helped us plan where we wanted to go and to know a little about many "older" gmc owners before we met them in person. I am sorry that the publisher became disgruntled and will not release any rights to "scan". That is what I understand anyway. For a new owner, these are just priceless. We got most with our coach then I immediately subscribed and got the last year's "few and far between" publications.

And, some of us who had a subscription got the shaft when they stopped publishing before our subscription expired.

Dan,
I am sure there are several people on here that went to Joe Burdette's funeral outside Atlanta. It was a real tear jerker when 3 or 4 of the ex-prisoners got up and told about Joe and his efforts to get them on the right track. Joe had many friends in the Dixielanders and I was one of them. He was one of the best men I have ever known and I am sure everyone that came in contact with him feels the same way. Joe was the kind of person that practiced what he preached and I along with a lot of people considered him their best friend.
