When following up an ad pointed out here, I found a talented man who has found the GMC motorhome. I took some pictures of his current project and posted here:

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6284-hans-coaches-vancouver-wa.html>

While I might not agree with his taste, (He likes Bling!) there is no denying he has talent.

His treatment of the belt-line is worth a whole thread. I'll have to try and get him to read/post here.

I also posted pictures of the parts coach that brought me to his property.

Mike,

I'm not sure but I think we're in agreement regarding taste as I reckon the rear end is ugly.

I'm patriotic but the eagle head is a bit too much for me.

The front end and bumper look nice but looks out of place when the rear end is taken into consideration.

He does like bling and chrome mirrors look nice.

I wonder how much the small grill cuts down on the cooling airflow across the radiator?

A brass bed?

Regards,
Rob M.

The rear end has a "Flexible" look to it that reminds me of a school bus that I rode many years ago. Can't say that does anything for me, but I really like the front end treatment. I hope that he used proper adhesives to mold the front end and doesn't have things cracking apart in another year or two as I does look very nice.

The mirrors look just like the set I have stored inside my '73. They came off a late '90's Dodge PU. They are available in men's malls... I picked up a set for something like $40. (powered) I have seen listings on the net of some of these mirrors heated as well as powered!

I like the look but was trying to figure out a way to mount them in the OEM location and bolt holes. I might need to make some custom brackets, because I do like the mirrors.

Mike, I put the TZE's in a message about the parts coach, but the email list was down... I sent John a off-net message. That is the only reason I knew that the modified coach was a Glenbrook.

Mike, AND Kerry:

At the Moultrie Swap Meet I visited last weekend, I saw some really nice
looking mirrors from GMC/Chevy pickups (don't know year). The thought
crossed my mind then: "Those look as if they'd fit a GMC MH very nicely --
IF Kerry would make a base adapter..."

I've already got Ramco's, so I don't have a dog in the fight. :-)

I am thinking that the "base adapter" at least for the Dodge mirrors, might be better cast rather than what I have seen of Kerry's work. But then again, I do not know all of what he is capable of...

I was thinking Kerry might look into Kelvin's folding table design. I think there would be a LARGE market for something like that... more than just GMC's. (or even just RV's)

humph you outed me Ken. Very Happy I want power mirrors. Actually I've been looking at the late model GM pickup power mirrors, turned sideways and making a cover and mounting plate for the base. On my list of things to do.

Mike,

I agree with you that someone needs to produce the under-sofa table. I'd
even replace my "gas powered dining table" with it, if done right.

Pics here...

I can product the arm. That was the difficult part of this job. From
there it just take someone who wants to put the arm pivot points in the
right place and build around those pivot points.

Not exactly a bolt-in solution.

We've been using it for a while now and it works well. Every bit as
stable as the original table.

Kelvin,

Looking again at your drawing: Couldn't you mount the arm in a stand-alone
frame which includes the pivot points? Essentially the center section of
your sofa. It would then be the installer's responsibility to fit that
frame under the couch, or build the rest of the base to fit your frame.
Then it would be essentially a "bolt-in solution" -- bolt your frame/leg
assembly to the floor in the center of the sofa area, and build to that.

You'll need to set up a production line! :-)

Well, I pruned one of my Ramco mounts, and got Nick at Applied to send me another arm.  "Power?"  "No" sez me.. so he had ot order the arm and Ramco drop-shipped it.  When I took the head off the broken mount, lo and behold, wires in it.  They just had never been connected.  However, the 'unpowered' mount Nick got for me is heavier and better than the 'powered' one, and the mounting holes are identical with the initial GMC ones which the other mount had covered.    So one project this summer is two spring loaded and one non spring loaded center off switches on the side panel and string some wires.  It's not ssential, noone drives to coach but me anyway.

While I do not have power mirrors on a coach... yet, On other rigs I find it handy to adjust the curb side mirror a bit down when parking along something like a curb. Easier to get close without scrubbing the tires or wheels. (Our Audi does this automagicly when you put it in reverse.) You can also adjust it slightly to reduce glare from headlights or a low in the sky sun behind you. So even if you are the only person who drives the coach, power mirrors are nice.

There is a good selection of mirror switches at your "local" men's malls.

My Ramcos have a convex strip across the bottom which I set to show the side of the coach out to the edge of the right lane.  Keeps the blind spot safe, and you can aluign the side of the coach with the curb using it.  I wan the spiffty setup a couple of our promotions cars (Escalade and a newer Tahoe) where the mirrors are tied to each individual key... put your key in, and they set to you automatically.
