I didn't know Bean Station was on a route. Of course, I'm thinking of 30 years ago when you really had to want to get there to get there. Now, with all those wider and less curvy roads the ride in and out is quite different. In fact, rather scenic and enjoyable.

Ken,
There is problem with letting the electronics pick the shortest route.....
Around here there are lots roads "no longer maintained" meaning that they may have returned to nothingness (even trees growing in the middle). Or "roadway removed" or "roadway relocated" that may have been done to make way for limited access highway or airport expansion.
Lets just say this has been a problem on a few occasions.
The mapmakers don't know this and only Google maps has the capability to get the corrections from the device (your smartphone) directly - only if you choose to apprise them.
Delorme usually sends me a nice note that they got my corrections, but I won't know if they put it in until I get the next version.

I wish I could get Garmin to stop directing folks up my driveway as a shortcut between two streets. I did write to them about this error but got no response and no correction of the error.

SHE'll sure be glad to hear y'all saying that! SHE HATES it when I follow
those paintless roads. Especially when they put us in corn fields & such.
Luckily, I haven't yet run into a tree in the middle of the road.
Personally, those little quirks are "the spice of life" for me, even when
they require me to disconnect and re-connect the toad in order to get out
of them. :-)

I once let my phone-based navigation take me from Albuquerque to Tin Cup, CO. I was actually going up the road five or six miles beyond Tin Cup, but there's only one road to Tin Cup, and I end up on it (it saved a lot of typing). It was the first time I'd driven the area at night, and it seemed pretty unfamiliar.
I turned off the main road onto a smaller county road. Then to a smaller local road. Then the pavement ended. Then it got steeper and rockier. And steeper and rockier. And then some more.
I ended up traversing a VERY rugged Jeep trail, strewn with boulders, and skirting along a 10' wide dirt trail with a many-hundred foot drop just past my left elbow. Even better, I lost the data link in the middle, and had to guesstimate the correct direction (which - happily - I got right). Fortunately, I was in a lifted Jeep Cherokee, and was more interested in seeing where this route would take me than in backtracking the 30-40 miles necessary to take the "paved route". For anyone who is familiar with the area, I ended up going over Tin Cup Pass, and into Tin Cup "from the rear" - an option I'd previously been blissfully unaware of.
I'm just amazed that that goat trail made it into the GPS database at all (as do a lot of desert trails here in AZ).

I was following a Streets & Trips recommended nice 2 lane highway through an AZ Navaho Reservation up to Utah’s Mexican Hat. As the road got smaller and smaller, the map began to not follow the road (now a dirt trail), I turned on Trace just in case I needed to find my way back. Good thing, I was soon on top of solid rock with no trace of a trail at all, no sign of dirt anywhere ahead. Not much difference in the lines on the map between US Hwy 183 and the disappearing dirt road. Same thing with the dirt logging roads through the National Forests.

I would guess they are, but I spend enough time on goat trails (on purpose) that I wouldn't want to not display them. OTOH, I do think I set up the rearview camera monitor's GPS to exclude dirt roads (just thinking about trying to take the GMC down some of the roads I travel in my Jeep makes my skin go cold...).
