I say "we" because Tom Phipps came over and helped tremendously,
having lifted these coaches a time of three! It was really
appreciated.
The wheels are off and the Royale is sitting on the jackstands. Did
not have time to do the Palm Beach too. My wife had a steak dinner
waiting for me when I finally got home. :)

Robin,
If I used that type of jack stands (wooden untreated) on the open ground where I live I would have white ands munching away at them within a month and I guess a few months later the coach would be on the ground. I believe there are a few requirements necessary to have the vehicles rear off the ground with no weight on the bogie arms. I think the air bags need to be deflated and the arms supported by plate under them and through the bogie box lower opening so that the shockers are not strained by the bogie arms hanging especially with wheels and tyres still attached. More knowledgable owners will chime in here advising or correcting what I am saying.

1. 12,000 lbs = 6 tons.
2. Quite the battery in the door of the barn queen.
3. When you get to the "make it pretty stage, you might try something with the stripes on the Royale, acetone. After striping most of the wide stripe from my '78 Birch, I found that a quick wipe with acetone (aka: nail polish remover) will remove all the color from the stripe... leaving it bright white. It might look good left white, but it could also be painted with vinyl paint.
4. Peter's comments have merit. I hope you have the air released from the airbags. Not releasing the air puts a LOT of stress on the shocks. With some brands of shocks, this will blow the seals. Blocking up the boogies isn't a bad idea.
5. For use on dirt or gravel for any amount of time, treated wood on the lowest level is a good thing.
A Hamilto,
There are 16 in steel wheels that will fit our GMC's. Sometimes these can be found in junkyards, they came on 70's and 80's GM dually pick-up and vans. Sometimes they are truly round and straight enough to give a good ride! Note that the trueness spec's for the motorhome was tighter than other applications. Also most of the other applications for these wheels did not lend to keeping the wheels true. Good luck finding steel 16 inch wheels that ride anywhere near what you get from aluminum wheels. But yes, It could happen.

For the price of treated 2X4's make all the levels out of treated wood. Then rot will not be a concern. Robin's storage lot is gravel and those stands will work fine on gravel. For anything softer I recommend using two more 2X4's to make the bottom solid. I have the transmode on jackstands, of treated wood, with complete bottoms, on soft swamp soil and they have only sunk in one inch after a year.

I copped a truckload of treated 4x4s a couple of years back. My Palm Beach is cribbed up on two foot sections of them. Before setting the coach, I laid Visquine <tm> on the ground and covered it with ASB. I was concerned that sitting over the uncovered ground would eventually lead to frame rust.

I wrote to Applied GMC about this very issue, and the response I got was:
"Please check the flat surface that hits the side of the jack. Sometimes the
weld gets in the way and makes it tilt. If that is what is happening the way
to straighten it is to grind the excess weld in that spot to make the jack
adapter sit straight."
I made a bit of a stink about this (considering the price of the hook,
it ought to work with their recommended jack right out of the box).
Nick @ Applied GMC called me and assured me that it was normal and
that grinding the weld down would do the trick. I've done the
grinding, but haven't tried the jack since doing so. Guess I should
find out before I take the coach on the road.
Anybody else run into this issue?

I wonder if an electric scissors jack could be made to work with that
hook? I realize it'd be a hefty lift for a scissors jack...
