Emery,
You're in good company. Many of us understand and share with you in the
mixed feelings you'll encounter of the days ahead. One of God's great
blessings is that of a good memory. And, if a parent gets to walk from this
life having lived a long one, so much the better.
After my mom passed at 94, I'd dream I was talking to her. I used to wake up
and remind myself that she was dead. However, the last couple of years I've
enjoyed the experience and not fretted about it. Still, there are many times
I wish I could pick up the phone or go see her for "one more conversation".
I also wish that with regard to my dad. I'm confident that one day I'll do
just that.
All of this doesn't take from the moments of sadness; know that you'll be in
my prayers.

Emery, I have experienced the bittersweet experience of losing a cherished
member of my family. Please find some comfort in the fact that your
Mother's suffering is ended, and that your extended GMC family wishes you

Emery,
No way I can tell you how sympathetic I am -- especially today, which we'll
share forever: We went from the GMCDL rally at Lazy Days over to
Clearwater to visit Elaine's sole surviving aunt who will be 100 next
month. At 9:00 AM this morning I got a call from the nurse at my mother's
nursing home telling me she might be breathing her last breaths. 15
minutes later, the hospice nurse called to say she had done so.
Fortunately, my aunt who lives in the same complex arrived in time to be
with her to the end. We got home at 4:30 PM.
Mother would have been 96 on 23 March. Her health had been bad and
declining for about 2 years but fortunately had not been hospitalized
during the past year. She'll be sorely missed, but I"m sure her suffering
is done -- she's surely gone to a better place.
