I believe 6 full turns equal approximately1" ride height.

Skip,

Below you will find what Chuck Boyd posted awhile back, he's a clever fella! ;-)

HOWEVER, under NO circumstances screw the torsion bar adjusting bolts IN with the coach on the ground you WILL strip either the bolt
or the threads in the block. It has been noted here that people have turned them OUT successfully without damage.

IIRC if you look in the early Maintenance Manual it says it's OK to adjust the bolt if you raise the front end off the ground.

The later manuals changed the instructions and noted to use a torsion bar unloading tool like this:

http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/1116

OR

http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/924

If you want to make one here's one that Larry Weidner made:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g3805-front-suspension-adjusting-tool.html

Gene Dotson has noted that he has adjusted the ride height successfully on his GMC by jacking the front end off the ground a number
of times with no ill effects.

Regards,
Rob M.

When I was setting the ride height in my daughter's RV after Manny had
installed his front end system, I found that 8 turns equaled an inch, even
tho several of the folks who were there when I was doing the adjustments
said 6 turns per inch. JWID.

JR,

That makes sense since the 1 Ton moves the wheels outwards about 2 inches.

I reckon if you have spacers on the OEM bearings it should be 8 also.

I would have to think that weight has to be figured into this also.

I agree. Not only weight but also the condition of the torsion bars. One can't do it by just counting the turns of the bolt. Turn and measure and turn and measure works fine.
