Anyone using their iphone on aprs? Looking for the right app. Was looking for just the map but I see that we can use the iphone for tracking instead of radio and TNC. Wondering how well that works?
The app I am looking at is only 5 bux. Hollar if you are using one.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan, reading user reviews these current "APRS" apps show little promise. You could assemble a tracker that functions easy enough. Not for $5, but it would work. If the only purpose was for others to follow you, a GPS, a tiny tracker, and a rock bound transmitter is very easy. For the GPS receiver, you could easily modify an older Delorme yellow box GPS. Only requires an internal jumper and you get the NEMA sentence delivered at the serial port, feed into tiny tracker, then to xmtr and you are beaconing out. This solution does not allow you to see the reports of those around you, but you knew that.

Dan,

I see a lot of people passing through here reporting direct via TCP/IP rather than going through RF. I am assuming that they are using an app similar to what you are looking at.

Side note: My I-gate (KB9KRI) is down. I have a fan error on the laptop that does the interface to the Internet. I just haven't got around to ordering one and replacing it. They are less than $10.00. When I do get it fixed I'll probably change the call sign to N9KB-1, or N9HRB, or KJ9V. I might also change it's reported location to my house.

Thanks guys, like I need another one. Have 4 now. I just set Teri's iphone so I can track her when she gets out of her car and hits the mall. Will know which store she is in now. This iphone tracking is neat.
Just thought I would throw it out there to see if any of yall were fooling with it.
I often tell people that I know I am fortunate to have lived during this time in history. So many neat gadgets.
