New carpet, new coach, gonna have the engine cover up...no doubt. How to keep my greasy hands off the new carpet. Hummm
When I changed my belts a few weeks ago I was really, REALLY careful and still put my hands down a couple times. Fortunately they didn't leave any incriminating evidence.
So I bought a cheap small rug and was going cut an engine cover sized hole in the middle so I could lay it over the engine hole if I had to lift the cover.
The other night I was driving past a new subdivision and saw an open house sign and a bunch of new carpet scraps sitting beside the road. I don't know why but it hit me then....carpet protector film.
This is the stuff you see at open houses. It's a clear film that clings to the carpet and provides a 'path' for the folks to walk while keeping the new carpet clean. It sticks to the carpet but doesn't leave a residue. I bought a 24" roll last night at Lowes for about $14 and cut it into three 8" widths.
If I have to pull the engine cover, I'll just tape off the areas I want to protect. (Sides, seat risers, and back step mainly) I'm confident this will work perfectly.

That stuff is Great! We always used it in the concert tour busses in the snow.If you
are careful and go slow it wil last in position for up to 30 days of foot traffic.I used it
at work when I had the indoor ice skaters.

The only problem I have had using that stuff is over time it tends to no longer lay exactly flat. I think the extreme heat/cold in AZ almost warps it over time.
