Lets talk rain gutters. Not the ones on your house. The ones that run along each side at the top above the windows.
Saw a topic on here of a guy that removed the covers and resealed under it.
Should I do this?

Kelvin,
Looking at your pictures of your repair, does the top aluminum overhang the sides under the gutter cover?.

Kelvin, Did you have any trouble getting covers off?

Joe,
I R&R'd the gutters on my '76 23' in '99. As it turned out, there was
little reason to go to the trouble. If there were leaks, they originated
at the forward or rear end of the gutter, not along its top. The upper
longitudinal extrusion to which the gutter attaches has a recess on each
side of the surface to which the gutter mount. The top and side aluminum
sheets seat on those recesses and are securely glued; I don't think there
would have been any leaks there even without the covering gutter. A
tar-like sealant was applied before the gutter was screwed in place
intothe area between the recesses. On my coach, that seal was
apparently
intact also.
In retrospect, I should have merely used a creeping sealer along the top of
the gutter -- just in case there were leaks there.
If you do decide to R&R the gutters, be VERY careful removing the gutter
extrusion. If you bend it, you'll be very lucky to find a replacement --
which you WILL need. Even after getting the gutter off, you'll need to
handle it very careful -- I fastened mine to a long-enough 2x6 while
cleaning them of paint and sealant.
Because of the tar-like sealant, you'll be much more likely to be able to
remove the screws and the gutter itself if you work in the sun on a VERY
hot day -- after soaking the screws with penetrating oil for at least a
week before-hand. You DON'T want to break them off.

Ken, The only leak that i have from the gutter is the very end at the drivers window. Looking at kelvins photos it looks like maybe there is a small hole where the ends meet, I might just remove the end caps and seal under them to see if that stops it.
I really was not looking forward to removing the gutters, i think by sealing the end caps and a good sealer across the top will do for now.
Thanks!

Joe,
I had to use a Dremel tool with a carbide burr to carefully grind
the heads of the screws off.
Then removed the threaded part with visegrips, the screws in mine are # 10-24 x 3/4 FH.
I ordered the screws from McMaster-Carr, Stainless FH Torx
# 10-24 x 3/4 part # 92703A359.
In the area of the rear cap, it looked like GM worker never sealed that area, all the seal was on the outside and under the end caps by some PO. Some screw holes where stripped, and I used inserts to repair.

Interesting. The screws holding my caps in place aren't threaded
machine screws. They were sheet metal screws.
Again... maybe a '73 things. Mine aren't really rain gutters, either.
Just caps to cover that area.

Found it!

Sorry about that :^(
A few other useless details to confuse the gutter issue. There were actually several changes:
- no gutter (early)
- with gutter (later)
- gutter strip with ~13 screws (early)
- gutter strip with ~25 screws (later)
- 3 types of screw heads, 1 torx, 2 phillips (grouped by vintage)
