G'day,

I get a weekly flyer from AdventureRV for items on sale. This past week the flyer had this MaxxFan fan on sale for $228.99

http://tinyurl.com/a8bhohc

http://www.adventurerv.net/maxxfan-maxxair-ventilator-smoke-lid-wremote-p-1677.html?utm_source=AdventureRV&utm_medium=email&utm_camp
aign=December_26_2012Sale

This fan is mo betta than Fantastic Fans cause it will pull air in/out of a GMC in a rainstorm.

I know EVERYBODY loves Fantastic Fan because the owners were so generous and replaced all kinds of parts FOC. I experienced that
generosity when they sent a new cover for one of the fans in The Blue Streak to Australia for FREE even though it was WAY out of
warranty.

However, IIRC it was noted here that the company had been sold and the new owners weren't as generous.

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,
The acquisition was in 2010 -- this past spring I called them to buy a gasket for a new fan I bought on ebay from an rv dealer. Even after explaining and asking they allow me to pay for it -- they sent it along with a new installation kit no charge.
They also offer a rain top.

Dennis,

Thanks for that info, I removed the rear Fantastic Vent when I installed the rear A/C, when I got it off I noticed that the cover
was cracked. When I get back to the USA in February I'll contact them and see if they'll send me one FOC.

I have two of the covers that go over the Fantastic Vent's here in Sydney that that look like this:

http://www.maxxair.com/standard-maxxair.html

I didn't install them because I found the MaxxFan and bought two of them.

Let's do a bit of comparison:

Below is a link to the Fantastic Vent - Smoke Cover P/N 6600R-4174 with remote @ $219.99:

http://www.adventurerv.net/fantastic-vent-6600-volt-smoke-dome-remote-p-6325.html

Below is a link to the MaxxFan P/N 00-07500K with remote @ $238.99:

http://www.adventurerv.net/maxxfan-maxxair-ventilator-smoke-lid-wremote-p-1677.html

Below is a video about the MaxxFan:

http://www.maxxair.com/maxxfan-deluxe-remote-control.html

I couldn't find any video's about the Fantastic Vent.

Below is a link to the Fantastic Vent UltraBreeze Cover P/N UB1500SM @ $69.99:

http://www.adventurerv.net/fantastic-vent-ultra-breeze-vent-cover-smoke-u1500sm-p-29927.html

Below is a link to a video of the Fantastic Fan UltraBreeze cover.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1fhkbl_1yQ

As you can see from the video it sure looks like it's WAY better than the other ones, eh? The flap sure drops a lot when the "brand
X" covers go on.

Unfortunately they don't quantify the amount of airflow lost; there is no way to tell how much the flow drops by the amount the door
moves. It LOOKS like it's a lot but???

There's something else I noticed, all the competitors have louvers in them, does the UltraBreeze? Hmmmmmm I wonder why they were SO
careful not to let us see the rear of the UltraBreeze? You reckon it might be because they didn't install the louvers?

Regards,
Rob M.

I agree that Fantastic Fans have a great product and provide service rarely seen in today's world.

But my "in use" coach came with a discontinued MaxxFan product that i have been fairly happy with. It allows ventilation rain or shine. It kind of looks like a small AC unit, and fits over a "normal" un-powered vent. It has a angled rear allowing a powered fan mounted in the rear, facing down.

It is seen here on the forward position, just ahead of the AC unit, but you really can not see the shape:
<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/1978-birchaven-rear-bath/p34949-1978-birchaven-rear-ba.html>
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/5533/78BirchRB_1008a.JPG

Here is a DIFFERENT product with a similar shape, Mine has a powered fan in side the rear part, facing down:

<http://www.rvwholesalers.com/catalog/fan-mate-model-950-vent-cover-22-0390.html>
http://www.rvwholesalers.com/catalog/images/T/22-0390-color-01.jpg

Granted it doesn't move as much air as a Fantastic or have remote control. But it IS simple, it was cheap, (it was already there) and I like it.

My experience with FF is the same. They have, at one time or another,
replaced all of the units in our SOB. My FFs are thermostatically
controlled and the thermostat failed. I got a newer, better one FOC last
summer in addition to a new motor and blade assy. They are still the same
great folks to work with.

Nice find, Rob! I'm thinking about putting one of these in my front
fan opening. All that is there right now as a metal cover and a lot of
ugly caulk (thanks, PO!).

Is there 12V power near the front fan opening on a 1973 model,
preferably accessible without tearing out all of the headliner?

Just checked my wiring diagram, looks like there should be power
there. Note to self: check diagrams before asking wiring questions :)

I hate to see it but the new Max Fan has all but shut down Fantastic Fan.  I hate to see it because really, the FF folks were really nice and I installed a blue million of them.  The day I brought in a Max Fan that was it.  It's just so needed to leave the fan open all the time down here in Florida, without that everything grows mold!

Fantastic Fan was bought out by Dometic so now they have to deal with a declining product.  I have a Fantastic Fan I took out that was never used-- the Max Fan is so much more useable.

You know...if you turn that MaxxFan around so the opening is facing forward, you could hook it to the Carb intake as a kind of forced air charger. Wink

"Head" is a navy/naval term. In the "olden"
days of wooden ships, "sanitation" tasks
were accomplished from a "facility" where it
all was hung out near the bow of the ship.

This was at the "head" of the ship and the
term remains to this day.

true head was used but also the french and the spanish had the poop deck, which was off the back

The name originates from the French word for stern, la poupe, from Latin puppis. Thus the poop deck is technically a stern deck,

Submarine heads face the problem that at greater depths higher water pressure makes it harder to pump the waste out through the hull. As a result early systems could be complicated, with the head fitted to the US S class being described as almost taking an engineer to operate.[3] Making a mistake resulted in the waste being expelled back into the body of the submarine.[3] The toilet on the World War 1 British E classwas considered so poor by the captain of HMS E35 that he preferred the crew to wait to relieve themselves until the submarine surfaced at night.[4] As a result many submarines used the heads as an extra storage space for provisions.[4]

The rv is nor head nor poop, it is a heop.

Mickey,

It's "loo." Wink

Regards,
Rob M.

This is why I usually refer to it as a Euphemism.
