Hi All
I hope you all are having a great New Year's Eve, for Rob and a few others
it is all over.
The videos from U-Tube seem to be disappearing, I suspect they have to prune
their data when they get too many cat movies.
Is it time we had our own GMC motorhome video site? Billy's photo site
cured the problem of disappearing photos, perhaps it is time to do the same
for our videos.

If we can't raise the Thoma Video, let me know. I will video another one
using the same tools and procedures. It won't be Ken Thoma, but I have
changed and lubed lots of front ends on GMC coaches and am familiar with
the methods involved.

like I said a couple of months age, I no longer use short links and picture
sites.

Not a link but I have a 85MB MPEG-4 Video file of the Thoma presentation. I suspect I wouldn't be able to send it out using my email. If the internet version can't be re-activated or recovered this could be made available somehow.

that file -- or so I understand though I haven't had occasion to try that
feature.

No. As I have no idea what a dropBox is thus I don't have one. I'd be happy to make a disc and send it to someone who can list it somewhere where everyone can get at it. (I used to be on the top of the PC game but then work got in the way and I fell behind the curve. Now I'm so far out of it I know how the Luddites felt.)

Dropbox is real handy and they don't get any cheaper....
It is essentially an internet location where you can store what ever you choose. The free user section comes as three parts, Private, Pictures and Public. If you put pictures in Pictures or anything in the public sections you can ask Dropbox for the URL to that Picture/File and send that as e-mail so whomever can retrieve it at his own convenience.
Go to www.dropbox.com and read about it.
It is real handy for passing big files around, and even better so you don't have to remember which computer you left that blasted file on or where the most up-to-date version is now. And, you can access it with almost anything that has net access. What ever you load it to, it takes on as a system directory that is native.
The only difficulty is that it is tough to have multiple Dropboxes on one machine.

Steve,
DropBox, like Google's My Drive, and Microsoft's SkyDrive, is a free 5
gbstorage location on their servers.
DropBox, the one I use most, integrates itself as a pseudo drive which you
can access with Windows Explorer, like any hardware drive.
The nice thing about it is that you can access it from anywhere you have a
computer since it's really a network drive with the WWW as the network.
And since it doesn't depend upon email, the attachment size restrictions
are irrelevant.

Try it, you'll like it.

It is just one step into "the cloud."
Personal storage that can be accessed from anywhere on the Internet. There are several "vendors" and each is called something a little different. Others have given specifics.

Brian, I will try to answer you as accurately as I can. I have three one
ton front ends sitting on my shop floor. They are the Hubler Version ll
made by Manny T. I have personally installed several of them, and will
continue to do so. They are not the best economic solution in every case.
If you have good serviceable front end hubs, knuckles, wheel bearings,
brake rotors and control arm bushings, and are happy with the way your
coach performs the way it is, then my advice to you would be to run what
you have until it is worn out and in need of repair. At that time, then the
cost of oem parts will exceed the cost of the Hubler setup. With the Hubler
setup, you will have all new cv joints and axles, much larger new brake
rotors and new front wheel bearings that are much larger than the Gmc
originals. You will have heavily reinforced lower control arms fitted with
much heavier duty ball joints and urethane bushings. In addition, new
offset bushings are fitted into the upper control arms along with large
ball joints. To sum up, there is a lot of new parts fitted that most of the
coaches I encounter need to have replaced anyway. The front track width is
wider than stock. If your ride height and front alignment is corrected
after the install, your coach will drive well and stop much better. Some of
the 1 ton coaches have over 20,000 miles with no issues. There is one out
there that has severe torque steer problems that has eluded all attempts to
correct it. I believe that the problem is NOT IN THE HUBLER SETUP, but in
THE steering box or linkage. I hope this answers your question.

ok thanks.....my coach has 53k documented miles.....It wanders all over the road.....I can not drive it nor can others...it is exhausting....ride height is correct front and rear..and at times of wheel alignment..tires are new.....wheel alignment by the book once amd then by recommendations here....bushings uper and lower are tight and in nice shape.....replaced control sterering arm relay, did nothing. other ofset relay is good..steering wheel is centered ....telecpopic blue shaft and c v joint well lubed steering box centered as per manual......new brakes . put on 2in spacers.front wheal bearings are tight. Heavy truck shop can find nothing wrong..... wanders all over 77 ele 455

I didn't see any reference to checking / adjusting the play in the steering box. The front end components on my '78 Royale seem to be in pretty good shape (no obvious excessive flex in the ball joints and tie rod ends when cranking back and forth on the wheel), but there was far too much play in the "system". It was clear that the main culprit was the steering box - I could clearly see the input shaft moving back and forth without any discernible movement of the output shaft / arm. Adjusting the steering box made a dramatic difference in the handling of my rig. The free play in the steering wheel (the amount I could wiggle it back and forth holding it lightly with my thumb and index finger with the engine off) went from about 2-1/2" to about 3/4". I haven't driven enough GMCs to say that it's as good as it's gonna get, but it's really so easy to drive now that it's hard for even a perfectionist like me to get too excited about trying to improve it any more (though I suspect I could get it a bit tighter by adjusting the ride height to spec).
One other thing to consider is the tendency for a GMC to "rear-steer" when the front bogie encounters a "truck rut" (very common on US interstate highways). This was my biggest beef with the way my rig handled when I bought it, but I corrected that by installing the True Track modification from Applied (http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/701) I only did the front bogie since the rear one will tend to go where the rest of the coach goes, since it's trailing the pivot instead of leading it. Now even dropping the rear wheels off the edge of the road doesn't result in an "interesting" recovery... the rig just moves back onto the pavement without drama.
UPDATE: I now see where a separate thread was started, and it does deal with the steering box adjustment. Still, the rear-steer info above might be of some use...
