Someone posted info about an RV park between Tucson and the border, built on
an old Dog Racing track grounds. I saved it but it may be at the office.
Does anyone remember the name of the place? Thanks and a Happy New Year!!!!

Yes, that's it, Hal (and Ron). Very nice place. You'll like it there. Make sure you visit Tubac and, if you have time, Aravaca. Not much in Aravaca, but it's a nice drive and there is a little artist's co-op there. Plenty of attractions north in the Tucson area, and near Green Valley ( Arizona/Sonora Desert Museum, Madera Canyon, Tucson Mountain Park, Titan Missile Museum, San Xavier Mission, etc. etc.).

Is this park convenient to Karchner Caverns?

Randy,
Yes and No, Kartchner Caverns is located about 40 east of Tucson on I 10 at exit 302 and then about 8 miles south on 90. They have a fairly nice campground at the state park and you should make reservation for the tours either online for by phone. They only tour a little over 500 people a day. If you show up without a reservation or late for your tour it is some times tough to get on a tour.

We did the tour last year and it was very good. Another cave tour is Colossal Cave at exit 279 on I10. It is a dry cave.

Steve Ferguson lives just down the road in Sierra Vista.

Everything is Arizona is just a piece down the road, so if it is under 300 round trip then it is close.

Randy,
Kartchner caverns has it's own RV park. If they are full (seldom are) you
can stay at Cochise Terrace RV park just 5 miles away. It is one mile S.
of I-10 on SR90. Excellent park.
DeAnza RV resort is very user friendly. Heated salt water pool and
Jacuzzi. Fri and Sat nites they serve a dinner that can't be matched
anywhere in price, quality, and quantity. Same for breakfasts. Also, one
of those nights is free Margaritas and plenty of 'em. The clubhouse has a
huge firepit outside the entrance that the owner fires up and maintains on
weekends if the weather cooperates. They frequently have live
entertainment on weekends and like Carl mentioned, just a few miles down
the road is Tubac. Many snowbirds cross over into Nogales for excellent,
inexpensive, dental work.

Is this park convenient to Karchner Caverns?

Randy,

Short answer; not really

Long answer; you can get there from there by two different routes. One way would be to go back north on I-19 to Tucson, East on I-10 to Benson, South on SR90 to Karchner Caverns State park where, as John and Steve mentioned, they have a very nice RV campground with electric and water hookups and a dump station. It is a really nice place to stay and relatively cheap at (IIRC) $25.00/night.

The other way would be to go south on I-19 to Nogales, take the first exit and drive down the main drag to SR 82, and head east to SR 90, then north to Karchner Caverns. The second route is much more scenic and will take you through Patigonia and Sonoita, both very nice little towns

Either route is a pretty long drive from Amado. If your destination is Karchner Caverns, you would be better off just camping at their facilities.
