New Mexico hasn't required smog tests in Santa Fe so my GMC hasn't been smogged since leaving California in 1993. It passed the Colorado smog tests today with flying colors.
Less than 10% of the allowable for each of HC, CO and CO2. The TBI system must be working well.

No. They don't even look at the engine for 1981 and older vehicles. Even for newer ones all the so is check the emissions Fromm the tailpipe and look to see if you have the valve cover vented through a pcv valve to the carb / TBI and check your gas cap with a vacuum to see that it seals properly.
Pretty easy.

I'm SOOOOOO thankful that Alabama is still a free country. We don't have any inspections of any type.

Some states have a higher concentration of common sense than California.
I choose to live in a state with a minimum of busy body city slickers sticking their nose in my business. If I want to put a GMC up on blocks in my front yard for a few years, nobody in UA will say a |)@|^| thing. It is not unusual here for people to take the wheels off their houses after they get them in place.

You would be surprised as to what percent of the GMC coaches pass the smog
test .
We are not to get involved in having a coach pass a test, but since we have
a smog machine ,we can do a dry run before sending them to the real test.
Naturally we have couple of carburetors that seem to do well when tested.
We can convert a Howell system to carb and have it tested and back in few
hours.
there was a time when we could find a friendly shop that would perform a
clean pipe test for $100, but they are now lost their license and heavy
fined.
One GMCer appealed his unit not passing and ended up needing to have me
find an original smog label off an air cleaner and ever piece of hose.
Next time he should avoid confrontation and have a shop work on it so it
will pass and do a dry run first.

Likewise Georgia if you're notin a 'non-compliant' (read Atlanta metro) area.  Hall County is compliant, I've been driving my Ranger with the CE light lit for right at 60K miles now.  I know it needs a valve job, I'm just putting it off.

Colorado changed their law a couple of years ago. Now it only applies to 1975 or older.

You should note that on your site.

Currently in NC, vehicles 35 years or older do not require annual inspection. The law used to be 25 years but the increased it in 2004, or thereabouts. As is indicated on Gene's page, I have concerns about registering for antique plates as the state & local governments are getting very good at cross-matching databases and assessing fees -particularly property taxes. I have similar concerns with agreed value insurance but haven't researched it yet.

I applied for an antique plate for my 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo about 5 years ago and got it. The next County tax fee I received went from $8.00 per year to over $80.00 for the car. When I questioned it they said the car was a valuable antique now. Since the car was being restored by my son, I showed them some pictures of the car in pieces and they agreed to reduce the taxes back down if I agreed to only drive it to shows but it took another years of higher taxes to get it changed. I am afraid to try on the l974 GMC Motorhome. I do have agreed value insurance on the motorhome and property taxes on it is less than $10.00 since it is an obsolete vehicle.

Gene, your Monte Carlo story is similar to others that have been told to me. Anyway, I've had enough anecdotal evidence to make me shy away from antique plates.

Since posting the above, I've searched and can find no mention of cross-matching agreed value appraised amounts to the property tax roster. That said, I've known various states' sales tax boys to do heavy-duty data mining and produce pretty damning lists. There was also a recent case of one Long Island city using Google Earth the spot unregistered swimming pools in backyards ...so if they can think of it, they'll do it. Unless there is some law which caps the property tax, it'd be pretty hard to argue that a 3rd-party appraisal someone used for insurance wasn't valid for tax valuation.
