Hey Ya'll Just back from 42 days in New York working with FEMA on the Hurricane Sandy recovery.

I did get a quick look at the Floyd Bennett Field campground- i think it would be a great base from which to see New York City.

The only challenge is ground trans from the campground to the nearest public transit. But once you get to the subway station the whole city is available.

We spent most of our time in that part of Brooklyn. Got to try a lot of great restaurants. (Russian, Turkish, Uzbek)

I love New York.

The other big discovery is EyeFi. This is a 4-16 gig SD card with a built in wifi transmitter. the result is instant transmission from any camera to your computer or direct to the internet via any number of photo services. I'm thinking Dan would love it.

Works with any camera that takes an SD card, not hard to set up.

As for the coach- who knows. We bought a cute little house on the water and there may not be space for the vintage RV collection.

Having a great Christmas with the two little dudes (age 2 & 4)

Merry Christmas to all

Currituck, NC, - the actual water is Coinjock Bay - On the way to the Outer Banks, stop by.

As prolific as you are with photos it's a no-brainer. The bottom end EyeFi card was $39 at Wally's.

Dave,

Good on Yah! You are top bloke, even though you own a Revcon! ;-)

I did some research into Floyd Bennett Field campground and here's some additional info:

Helen and I stayed at the Liberty Island Marina and RV Park several years ago and found it a good place to stay.

At that time they had a Good Sam and/or FMCA 10% discount.

Mike,

Thanks!

As opposed to yobbo: Aussie slang term for an uncouth or thuggish working-class person.

However, it turns out that yobbo has been increasingly replaced by the term "bogan" which was news to me!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogan

Crikey, if I keep this up you guys can visit Australia and speak the "lingo" the minute you hit the tarmac! ;-)

Let me get this right....
You just spent 45 days helping to clean up hurricane damage and moved into a house that is on tidal water???
I have been in two hurricanes, and I do need to do it again.

Matt, Dave,
Living anywhere is a crapshoot. Hurricanes don't care where you
live. The first hurricane I went through was in Monroe, LA in the
50's and the eye passed right over us. Get a map and see how far
inland Monroe is, a loooong way. It continued up through TN, NC and
started up again in the Atlantic.

Main thing about hurricanes is to know when to leave. Just get out of
it's way before it hits. It's those who stay that have problems.

Regarding waterfront and hurricanes;

I did learn a lot on this trip that i will apply to my new situation. The house has seen a lot of hurricanes and it's elevated with flood vents. The important thing is the responsiveness of you insurance agent/adjuster

Regarding Eyefi- I don't think it will transmit video in real time but it might. There are several different grades. I got the cheapest.

thanks

Roger,

I well understand weather (I am a sailor), but the storm surge was my consideration. A few years ago, they built a bunch of high-buck water front condos in Stonington, CT. I thought it was kind of humorous as I had rowed a boat of that land at the end of a hurricane in about 1964.
