Starkpatch? Starkvegas? I thinks it's an hour and a half, maybe two. I
was briefly incarcerated at Moo U when I thought I wanted to be an
electrical engineer, before the differential equations and higher
levels of calculus convinced me of the error of my ways.
I may have lost my little S shaped piece of tubing that goes from the
crankcase ventilator to the air hose between the air filter and the
carb. Is that for emissions purposes or to preheat the air so icing
isn't a problem? Both seems likely. Can i live without it or must I
fashion a replacement?
Clean cooling fins, remove heads and clean carbon (if any), be careful
so as not to damage head gasket, find some sort of aluminum spray
paint and spray the gasket with it a few coats. Wiretie the various
wires neatly, clean up the oil spray that seems to be everywhere...
When it comes time to put this into the Royale, the Power Drawer is
already in it, but empty. Is it easier to take my Onan out of its
drawer and put it into the Royale's drawer, or should I take out the
empty Royale drawer and just slide the Onan drawer and all into the
spot? It would seem to me to involve less fiddly bits to be
disconnected and reconnected.

When it comes time to put this into the Royale, the Power Drawer is already in it, but empty. Robin,
The hose that connects the crankcase breather to the air inlet is just to prevent the oil carried by the blow-by from making a mess of the package. It doesn't help to prevent icing at all.
I light coat (if any at all) is all the gaskets need if they did not get damaged in disassembly. It is important that head gaskets and castings go back on the side they came from if the gaskets are re-used.
My experience is that, in the assembled coach, it is easier to put the power drawer mount in and deal with the fuel line, DC and AC power connections before the unit gets put on the slides, final connections made and then slid home.

Congratulations Robin
As I recall the ONAN engine has both cylinders moving in the opposite
direction. When both pistons move outwards toward the heads they create a
vacuum in the crankcase The little tube from the intake lets air into the
crankcase during the compression/exhaust stroke and exhausts it during the
intake/power stroke. The reason it is connected to the intake after the air
cleaner is provide clean air to the crankcase when it needs it.

While I am not sure about the 6k, you do not want to remove the oil cap (and dipstick) on a 4k Onan while the motor is running.
Due to the pumping action of the pistons, (both out, both in) it will try and empty the oil pan out the opening!

AND, as I learned with my old 4kW, that constant pressure fluctuation can
wreak havoc with the oil pan: Mine developed a hairline fatigue crack
along one of the bends on its bottom. I brazed it up and eliminated the
leak, but it hasn't been run more than 50 hours since then so I've no idea
how long that will hold up.
If you develop a mysterious leak from the bottom, you may want to check for
that.
Hmmm...occurs to me that's a pretty big loudspeaker cone -- wonder how much
of the Onan noise comes from there? :-)

The carb is very simple and easy to clean or rebuild. For a simple cleaning just get a can of Gumout. Remove carb and spray down the throat, in the fuel inlet, any other openings you can find. To be a little more thorough remove the bowl (it's just held on by one bolt) which will allow access to the float, needle and seat, etc but you might damaged the bowl gasket, so be careful or get a rebuild kit first.

Okay, with that out of the way...
Here's what I did: I started just taking apart the carb, and taking
pictures as I did,and I soaked the whole shebang in a can of something
called ChemDip from Autozone or something like that. It's some sort of
uber-dangerous chemical in a gallon paint can (comes with handy dipping
basket) that one can soak stuff in. Put everything back together again, and
the car appeared to work.

I soaked the carb off Double Trouble's Onan in ChemDip and then reassembled it with the rebuild kit and Bob's you Uncle it ran
great!
Remember to screw the adjustment jets in carefully and count the turns so you know where to set them when you put the carb back
together.
