> I'm not sure of earlier models but Manny's later rebuilds have the "'kick down circuit" disabled, therefore stepping on the throttle will have no effect. When working, the electric solinoid in the circuit dumps control pressure in the throttle body by "leaking" the oil directly to the pan. Also some of the control solenoids are subject to spontainious leaking which would also keep the transmission in low gear until very high engine RPMs. Long term, heavy pulling in "kick down" such as climbing a long hill with your foot on the floor has been know to cause problems. (clutch apply pressures are not as high as in "'super" range and clutch slipping can also occur). He wants you to pull the selector into super if you want "kick down" to increase the longevity of the transmission.

We have a (wonderful) Manny tranny with the 3.50 power drive.
My understanding of what he said is the kickdown circuit leaks pressure and causes
slipping and wear, which is why he blocks it off in the tranny. (basically what you just said)
However, we still get downshifts via vacuum changes. When we stomp on the pedal, our beast
GOES like the space shuttle taking off with no changes to Manny's installation.
It's friggin' awesome. The kickdown switch isn't needed in our experience.

If you have a Manny tranny and decide you REALLY want the kickdown feature re-enabled
for some reason, you could install a vacuum dump solenoid to achieve the downshift without
having to reverse the changes and suffer the problems. Or so I've been told. Hasn't
been an issue for us so I haven't pursued it.

Manny's the world expert on our trannies and he doesn't make these mods lightly.

just my $.02 and experience.
