For folks in Central Florida there is a new limo service starting up
utilizing GMC coaches (what else?)

Check out Comfort Coach at http://www.comfortcoachlimo.com/ The owners
stopped by to see me about 6-8 months
ago when they were looking for GMCs that could be easily adapted to their
new service. They have just completed the 1st one and will be adding
coaches as the demand expands.

Pls spread the word. All owners benefit from there being greater
visibility of these Classics on the roadways.

Any questions should be directed to kennykurz@live.com

Looks like a great idea, and the coach should lend itself nicely to something like this. Wish them best of luck in their new venture.

The guy putting it together is looking for a 23' rear bath coach to convert.  Needs descent mechanicals but the interior can be rough.  He has had some successes here in Florida with his service, it's tough relying on 30+ year old machines as moneymakers but he is working hard at it and I certainly hope he can make a go of it.  Good guy and a hard worker, I'm doing what I can to help him.  Right now, lets beat some bushes and find him a low cost rear bath 23,

Jim,
NIce Idea!! I don't know of a 23', but know where there is a 26' that is set up as and was used for Airport shuttle. It has been in storage for at least 10yrs, Ran before storage, but has had some critter infestation. Interested? If so, I can get the location (Minnesota) and name and contact information of the coach owner.

Yea, lets give him  the contact info.  Was it a Transmode set up as a shuttle bus?  Does it have facilities?  That's the stuff he would want to know.  Also, this is for commercial use so he would need it priced where it could be put back into useable condition.  One thing about using a GMC for commercial use, it has to make economic sese.  We can do stuff and buy things because we want it, he has to look at the bottom line which is the hard part of what he's trying to do.

Thanks, get me that info & I'll pass it along.

Ok, give me a couple of days. This person is not easy to get ahold of.

I actually saw it about 3yrs ago. I do not remember it having anything but lots of windows and all seating around the inside perimeter, and not sure if it was a transmode. I'll get back to you as soon as I know anything of use to you.

That is awesome. I have thought of the same idea. a friend of mine has a airport shuttle bus we swapped the seating around in, and we use it as a "party bus" but pretty much just for friends. It is a hobby. Since I have gotten my GMC, I thought it would be so easy to get a GMC set up. I have used my Palm beach for a wedding once, and was able to get 21 people into it. But it is only for select crowds, because I do not want the problem of having to remove the booze and vomit smell.

There are plenty of party bus companies around my area, and they charge a fortune, and do really well. but there are big expenses too that go with operating a "by the book" service. But there is money in it.

here is one that is very successful: http://thefunvan.com/

I think it would be very financially feasible to convert GMC's into limo's or busses, to haul around people for parties. Plus it is much more classy to show up in a EM-50 to a bar, or party, then a converted city bus, or airport shuttle.

only thing I never looked into, is to convert the RV title, over to a more commercial vehicle title, and if there is any way for a gmc to get "DOT'd" witch i know the DOT here in MN regulates the "by the book" party bus companies.

good for these guys, I would rent one, if i was in Florida. Glad Jim is helping these guys out.

I've got a spare GMC. Somebody once suggested that I could use it as a
party van to take school alumni to ball games and serve alcohol and
barbecue. Maybe I could use the one to pay for the upgrades of the other.

Yea, I have several coaches too, the Airstream here (family funeral coach) could really be a cool ride but there is so much more to offering a vehicle as a limo.  The "bean counter" all have to take their cut-- insurance, permits, etc. you have to invest money up front to do something like that.  This is probably why so many people cannot do it which may be a good thing.  You need to feel safe contracting someone to drive you somewhere.  Your "fare" will not understand if the coach starts to vapor lock, throws a belt, dash AC doesn;t work, wobbles on turns, door won't open, water leaks on their new suit, fuel smell, foggy windows, won;t start when hot, running lights short out, generator won;t start or stay running--- did I miss anything?  Oh yea, looks like crap!  It is not easy to keep any vehicle save something is big and old as a GMC in top cosmetic as well as mechanical condition.  Think of it this way, a funeral home cannot have a limo with
primer spots on it and dirt on the rims-- keeping a GMC in top condition is a full time job itself!

He does say though that everywhere he goes everyone is impressed so there is a reason to do it and he is getting positive results.  Now, if he can just keep the coach together and keep the advertising going...
