If you are not particular about matching the factory paint, I have found Hammerite to be nearly indestructible in auto applications. Once it fully cross links (cures) it is really tough and does not fade. It is filled with glass micro spheres and is formulated to leave a hammered finish. You can find it at many big box stores in both rattle can and liquid forms. This brand I find far more durable that other, similar concoctions from other manufacturers. I have used it with great success on everything from the grill and headlight surrounds to front end components on the GMC and even for reguilding the "1906 Masonic Temple" lettering on the front of our building. I used it on the VW emblem on a 61 single cab pickup I restored for one of our kids and when that car sold decades later it still looked like new. Great stuff. The gold color will eventually loose its luster but not for a long time. The liquid stuff requires a special solvent if you plan to clean brushes or g
uns and becomes very thick once a can is opened. Use the rattle can where you can and apply several thin coats.
