On a 78 Royal. The 3 connector delay relay for my A/C blower motor is shown as obsolete ( 366408 ) Why the delay? Is it to dry out the evaporator after shut down? And what's my solution? Thanks, Bob Dunahugh

I would agree with your assumption of drying the coil to reduce the chance of a musty odor. My 76 doesn't have one. I would just remove it from the circuit you don't need it.

My delay relay became the "intermitant" relay this year so I did the 30 second patch around per Emery. The good thing is the sexes of the GM connectors allow you to simply patch around it as this was "added on" the last 2 years, they didn't have to modify the existing wiring harness, just looped it in series. My delay relay is still there but leads not connected. Also very slighlty less in-line voltage drop by patching around it.

Right it's 'delay on' only. Not like a electric coolant fan delay relay that runs the fan for several mins AFTER the car is shut off with coolant over the threshold of something like 215.

[quote title=emerystora wrote on Wed, 05 December 2012 12:20]Except the delay relay doesn't delay the shutting off of the blower. It just delays the start up so it won't do anything about drying the coil. It is there strictly to give the vacuum actuated duct doors a chance to fully open (or close) before the blower comes on.
No problem operating without the delay though. Just bypass the relay.

Delay on that makes more sense. I would agree with Emery as long as the vent motors have enough vacuum to operate it wouldn't be needed.
