Well, I got this roll of LED lighting online about a year ago, and finally had time to install it, as planned, in the "gap" between my center duct and side ceiling panels. I lowered the ceiling to add the denim insulation batts, and put this gap in specifically for this purpose. It is made with steel studs so it was light, easy to install, made a nice ledge for the panels, and nice and reflective for lighting.

this cost less than $20.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/it-has-begun/p46694-led-lighting.html

How it is installed

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/it-has-begun/p46695-led-lighting.html

This stuff is basically a roll of tape.

You can't read by it, but that isn't the point. It is connected to the Galley switch by the door.

I thought about using the multicolor with a wireless remote, maybe I'll add that for "mood lighting".

Nice Chris, you do good work. But, I think your wife might appreciate no lighting for setting the mood with you. Very Happy

Here in Amado: http://deanzarvresort.com/ It is a really nice place with great facilities. It used to be a Greyhound racetrack, and has a huge building, indoor pool, lots of meeting space etc. It is also near Tubac, which is a nice little artist's community, great for Christmas shopping.

Chris,

I'm a bit confused by your photos, it appears you have a dropped ceiling that runs down the center of your GMC and the strip lights
are mounted above it.

If yes what is the distance from the floor to the bottom of the dropped ceiling?

Rob M.

I have been in Chris's coach and would guess that the distance from the floor to the dropped ceiling to be about 13 inches!!!!

John, I'm supposed to be the smartass.

Well, John bumps his head a bit, My wife and I have a few inches to spare. I'm 5'6".

I think I measured it at around 6'1" or thereabouts. The "stack" from the top is 2x4 framing (steel studs) that are 3.5 inches, then a quarter inch of thin plywood with some hull liner fabric, then the Ducted AC vents and intake add about another quarter to half an inch, so worst case, 4.25" lower than the aluminum Frame of the coach in the center. It is about 22" wide all the way down. The angled parts start about 1" higher than that in the stud to allow the gap for the lights, then angle downward to the outer walls with about a 2" overall drop and mount just above the entry door height. I used the 1/4-20 threads in the frame and some long bolts to hold them up. The overheads are shallower top to bottom, but deeper. Pay no attention to the hinges, I am going with simple sliding doors like in the bathroom module on the TP compartment, but latched of course.

It wiggles and squeeks a bit, but with some clever padding and a front cap (that isn't installed yet) that should help.

Chris,

Looks like John beat you at your own game!

Well so much for that idea; I'm 6' 1" or thereabouts too! I say thereabouts as I haven't checked my height in years and don't you
shrink as you get older? I know I have spread out, that's for sure! ;-)

Haha ;)

I like the look of that Chris. Probably a way to get the same look without the overhead clearance reduction if your not trying to fit hvac ducts in it Rob.

My PO did it this way:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g3244-headliner-installation.html

No indirect LED lighting, but a nice clean installation with only minimal intrusion below the ceiling. The center panel is removable and that makes it easier to add wiring for new lights etc. I have converted one of the fluorescent fixtures to LED, and plan to do more. The lowest part is the AC (which Chris doesn't have, with his ducted system) and it clears my head by about an inch or two. I'm 6'-0" (or, at least I used to be).

Bruce spent a lot of time on that. My reason for it all was twofold: add real insulation and go to ducted AC, which is a tad quieter.
