Ughh! Dust everywhere. Despite all of my efforts to seal up the GMC and then seal up the interior from the exterior, I still get way too much dust.

I have OEM windows. Most of the dust comes from them, it appears. Do those of you who have either the newer framed windows with the little sliders at the bottom or the frameless ones with the pop out windows notice less dust?

I'm thinking of getting new windows, really like the look of the frameless ones, but not a fan of the tip out feature...unless they seal better, which I would think they do by the very nature of being clinched against a gasket.

I also have some water coming in the Starboard side front large window, and it caused some wetness under my floor that I never saw until I removed the flooring to remove my seat bases. Had to replace the underlayment for 3 ft from the wall because of this. At least the vapor barrier I put in prevented it rotting the coach floor beneath it.

I think it's time for new windows, ahead of painting the coach.

Do the windows at the same time. Better paint job that way.

Chris,
We upgraded to the Motorhome Enhancements Windows in 2002. <http://www.bdub.net/Motorhome_Enhancements/index.html> Had almost 10 years experience with them and the wife loved them. Sealed tight, Tinted glass, easy to install and looked good. You will have to modify the coach interior window finish as they are a little thinner at the mounting frame. Actually have more glass area. The sliders provide plenty of ventilation. Even thou I have original window that were rebuilt and refurbished when the stretch was built they still do not seal well and lead dust. We are considering the newer frameless style as an upgrade replacement. <http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/536> I don't know of anyone who have installed them, but would like their comments.

I like the frameless but went with the older ones with the small sliders. I talked to a few folks that had trouble with breaking the tip outs with the door. Seems the door will hit the tip out if you are not careful.

Chris,

Am having my windows replaced at Topeka at the same time the coach is getting painted. Hoping for a little cleaner look around the windows. Anxious to pick the coach up in a couple of weeks.

Chris,

I replaced the windows in our X-Birchaven with Motorhome Enhancements'
slider-style in '99. In 2000 we went to Alaska, infamous for its dusty
(if not muddy) roads. We got hardly any dust inside the coach -- and the
weather was unusually dry. In fact, thanks to careful sealing everywhere
while the coach was gutted, we got VERY little dust anywhere, including in
the external compartments.

Whew, I am glad Randy finally decided to paint his coach. Now he will have the windows too. Going to be the best looking coach in Missouri, no doubt.
Chris, we have been buying the "slide" windows for a while now, one at a time. Got what we want and about ready to get started installing them. I suspect they will keep the sand out better than the old factory windows. I hope to really seal them good. Will have the wall out and the ceiling so insulating is also in order. Will be nice to have the door and kitchen windows so they will open now. I love the looks of the old sliders much better than the frameless. Just look like they were made for the coach. My opinion is the frameless look less attractive and kinda like they are just stuck on there. My opinion only counts when it comes to our coach though. Most folks like the frameless better.
Let us know what you decide.
Dan

Dan, when you get ready to install the windows, get the 2 headed suction cups with a handle from Harbor Freight. It makes handling the windows much easier. Gives you somewhere to grab on the window without getting your fingers in the way. Also, an extra small assortment of black anodized nr 8 metal screws. You will find the depth of the real window frame in the GMC will be different, even on the same window.
Attach the window, working from the top center out to the edges, than down the sides, keeping the pressure equal on each side. You may need someone to lean on the bottom, to get it close to the body.
Do it at Bean Station, and we can all help or at least watch.

I also got the slider replacement windows and installed them with my wife's help. I like them though I do like the frameless look as well. The sliders do a nice job of providing ventilation and were much easier to install than removing, retinting, and revealing the old windows. As my old screens were missing, it was a no brainer for me.

I would also recommend removing the old windows, have the coach painted, then install the windows as the finished product will certainly be nicer. I have had the black sealant weep from the windows for a few years when it gets hot outside, and keep trimming it back. On the other side, there are no leaks around these windows.

Thanks Tom. Will pick up a couple of those suction units next time I see them. Good idea. Hmm, mite do Bean Station on a couple of windows, if we don't get done before. Never thought about that. Jim, Gene, and Teri did my aluminum radiator install there a few years back.
