HAVING A GREAT TRIP

DRIVE - EM , JUST DRIVE EM

Don't worry about what you read here, take your GMC for a ride

after a long session with gas tank lines, took the GMC for a short trip
- hooked up Tracker toad
- 60 miles to son and family
- first hour settled into the GMC and driving her
- found a "fast- smart" 18 wheeler truck , and we made time in the traffic
- 65 mph, steady, GMC and i settled into the road and driving nerves
- 4 days dry camping in son's front yard
- almost all systems ---go--
- great trip - love the GMC - my own house
- Cancer walk with 27,000 other people

GREAT TRIP
- GREAT GMC
- GOOD FRIENDS

Yep, 'at's a fact, put over 9000 miles on my coach this year so far and we
aren't done yet. They just work better when you use them, and stuff happens
to systems when you don't. Especially braking systems.

A big Me Too for me.  We took our coach 70 miles to visit the wife's cousin in Manteca on Monday - what was to be a two day visit is not over yet.  We will take the toad home and come back next Tuesday.  He is having me help get two SOB coaches running so his relatives can go home. Mostly electrical problems- shop wired house power negative to positive - fun to find. Then his source plug on his house had neutral and hot reversed and that heated up a bunch of ground wires so they shorted to Hot or neutral - oh what a mess.  I advise everyone to invest in a 120 volt plug tester - under 5 dollars at harbor freight.

We love to drive the GMC.  It gives some freedom when visiting and we keep Texans in oil money so they can dive their GMC coaches Ha!

I'll get there, still need to put new shoes on her, and I need to get
over my neurotic fear of the coach spontaneously combusting on the
road. :D

On the 120v plug tester. I have one permanently mounted in my bathroom, in the coach. It is right above the breaker box and the 12v fuse panel. After I plug the coach in to shore power, I can easily check for correct connections. Also, makes a dandy night light.

I leave my tester plugged in to the ceiling
outlet in the hall just aft of the bathroom.

I do understand the fear.
I set out to find a campground close to the house for overnighters. I would spend more time staring at temp gauge than at road.
I read most posts here . Any break down I hear about I assume that will happen to me. Then I make a point to look at the suggestions listed here. I may take something apart to look at deeply, or just quickly glance at. Make sure you know how to jack up and replace tire and have equipment on board to do that. I do notice that the more familiar I am with all the systems the less junk I carry around with me.
Sometimes things just happen, roll with them.
Blind squirrels still eat.
Between camping trips I try to improve something. It may only be bleeding brakes or something small.
I do understand that cars that sit and cars that are used take the same amount of money to keep on the road. The ones that sit have problems with seals leaking and things getting gummed up. And cars that are used , well parts wear out. But in 5 or so years total cost is close.
Maybe have wife/friend follow in car. Claim that is for eating out once at destination.
You may find a campground with in an hours drive that offers a good place to get away and relax for not a lot of money, but pleanty of peace and quiet.
(my tester is behind stove)
