Hee! :)
I am in Nashville for Thanksgiving with my wife's family. Had some
unforeseen expenses and payday ain't till Friday. So I haven't been able to
justify buying a new pump. Ive never returned anything to NAPA, will they
really replace it?
I feel like I'm very close to getting her starting and running right.
No more alcohol whilst working! :)

NAPA is the worse auto parts place that I know of for returning anything. You must take it back to the same NAPA store that you bought it at and you must have a receipt. If you meet those requirements they will take it back.
I had a water pump that failed in under a year abd was warrantied. They refused to exchange it because I had no receipt. So I had a friend that needed the same pump. So I bought one for him and kept the receipt. Then about 3 months later I returned my bad one with the second receipt and they readily exchanged it.
One other thing, each NAPA store sets their own prices. That is why when you look up something on the NAPA web site, they require what store you will be using before a price is displayed. Almost all NAPA stores have gone out of business in my area. There are are still two left. One in my county and one in the next county west. The one in my county is always cheaper on any item I have ever looked up.
Take it back with the receipt and they will give you a new one.

Dunno if I have the receipt. Maybe. I hate to be that guy that returns
things.,. At least I won't be asking for a refund. I'll be happy with
another one of the same pump. It doesn't cost enough to be worth a hassle
over.

Rob, that is not the problem. One store does not have access to another stores sales records. This reason for needing a receipt. They also do not keep any records of their sales. In fact they have no idea who they sold anything to.
They are a nation chain of franchises. The closest one to me is owned by a couple of brothers who also own a used car operation and a Harley dealership. They also own a very nice airplane with a corporate pilot. Around town they are known as the piranha brothers.

The one positive point about Advance/O Rielly's/AutoZone is warranty. They ask your phone number, give them the busted whatever, and they hand you another one. All their stores use the same customer database.

I'm confused (nothing new)!
If you keep your receipt you CAN return it to a different store than the one you bought it from?

I bought an item on the road in Wyoming at a NAPA, when I tried to exchange it (with receipt) under warranty at the only two NAPA stores left in my area, both refused. Both said it had to go back to where I bought it. My assumption from that experience is that this is a normal practice for NAPA.

I think the independence of NAPA store precludes remote returns. On the
other hand, while on the way to Amana, around St. Louis, I thought the
alternator was failing so I stopped at O'Reilly's and bought one, intending
to return the core wherever I decided to change it out. By the time I got
home I realized the problem was not the alternator so I took it to the
local store and got a full refund. Two weeks with a free spare. That's
why I rarely shop at NAPA (plus the fact that NAPA does not offer 10%
military discount like the chains).

Napa's are a very strange situation.
Some shops are company owned and others franchise. I live in striking range of two of each and the local warehouse. One of the franchise is better than the other three by a lot, but somethings they just cannot accommodate. I can usually get those things from the warehouse store. There is a storefront on the warehouse. I know I can take back a defective part to one of the better franchise regardless of where purchased.
All told, if I had a warranty issue, I would prefer it be with either O'Murrey's or AutoZone. They both are more accommodating.

I'm not sure of the amount, but when I show my retired
military I.D. card at NAPA in Midwest City, OK. I get
a pretty good discount. I THINK the NAPA store MAY
charge me the same price as they do to the repair shops.
I usually use O'Reilly's, Advance, or AutoZone for most
stuff. I had to buy an alternator for our Ford Explorer
from O'Reilly's in Branson West, MO a year or two ago.
The alternator warning light has been coming on every
once in awhile and I couldn't find the receipt. I checked
with my nearest local O'Reilly's and they found date of
purchase, etc. in the computer and they said if there was
a problem, bring it in for an exchange. Pretty good reason
to shop there. Advance and AutoZone are also good about
any returns. Not sure how good their stuff is, though!

I have liked NAPA over the SOB chains as they are last of the flavor of a real counter guy type AP. And they have Synpower. I usually cant find the receipt as when you do the job you figure you won't have to do it again. Wrong
