I've gathered that replacing the awning fabric is a team sport. Anyone in Phoenix interested in an awning fabric replacement party? Someone with experience would be very welcome.

Any chance you could do a vid of that? Mine are on their last legs and necessary where I usually take the coach (asphalt lots at shopw sites).

Dan,
Common problem on the awning with a metal cover. Our carefree had a strip of heavy grey vinyl material added at the outboard end to replace the damage area that acted as a cover also. Sorry no pictures as I replaced the awning in 2002 with a ZipDee. It work very well and could save you the cost of a totally new awning.

Dan,
That should read, "without a metal cover". Spell check can't fix dumb.

My Zip Dee was installed in 1981 rigt after I bought the GMC and I use it a lot. It still looks like new fabric. The Sunbrella acrylic fabric holds up extremely well to the sun and weather.
Dan, rather than replacing the fabric you should consider replacing the awning. However they are not cheap.

Dan,
I think the material that is used is called Sunbrella. I went to their website: http://www.sunbrella.com/ and clicked on Where to
Buy, put in your zip code; and did a search for someplace within 50 miles. Nothing, I went up to 250 miles and a HEAP of places came
up.
Give it a go, Mate!

Rob M.

sunbrella is used by boat tarp companies and some times they have a lot of stuff left over that you can get lower than wholesale for
they are tired of storing it, so go to boat places or ask awning companies as well and tarp companies they have it.
i have a zippy one as well and i am not sure if there is any tarp in the metal housing, i have not tried to look. it may be empty.

I haven't looked lately, but there used to be companies advertising in FMCA
magazine's classified section that they made replacement fabric for any
awning. Anybody looked there?

Rob,
I don't read the web site as being awing brand specific. I think they'll
make one for any manufacturer's products. They certainly don't give much
information about materials, colors, etc., though.

What you are loooking is redily available.
We sell the material only, but the price of one to fit with the welt sewen
in,etc are not cheap.
The non Sunbrala replacement fabrics go for 500 plus freight.
It's not about not finding, but what your willing to pay.

Ken,
Here's why I noted that I didn't think they made custom awnings:
http://www.argorv.com/category/AWNR/Awning-RV-Fabric-Replacements/1.html
I cc'd you on my email to them asking if they made custom replacements for Zip Dee and A&E.

That's the same page that convinced me they sell generic awning fabric.
"Argonaut" seems to me to be their trade name for it, based on the
company's name. I probably jump to that conclusion because I've never
heard of an Argonaut awning.
Your Q should elicit a definitive answer.
