I wouldn't think so because the GMC structure is much more rigid. It looks to me that they driver could not recover because the load shifted after the initial swerve. Wild ride for sure and a good reason to make sure your 'best' tires are always on the steer axles.
I was about to pass a tractor trailer on the interstate once and was just about even with the rear of the trailer when the outside tire on his front axle of his trailer blew. I was ASTOUNDED by the force and debris that went across the road about 10' in front of me and have no doubt that if I had been beside it, my car (and I) would have been blown into the median. A motorcyclist would have never had a chance. The truck never even slowed down.

Current advice/instructions from tire manufacturers to
sellers is that the best tires should go on the rear.
I think that is because a driver can hardly ever regain
control once the rears have broken traction and started
to skid sideways. There is SOME capability of controlling
the steer wheels.

My daughter blew a 13,000 mile junk Dunlop tire on her Honda Fit.
I told her to have 2 new Yokohama AVID LRR tires installed on the front and put the existing fronts on the rear. Tire Rack in South Bend refused to install them on the front for liability reasons. So I told her to go ahead and install them on the rear and she or I would switch them later. We will probably just leave them alone because the junk OEM Dunlops are only good for less than 30,000 miles.

Ken, I doubt that ANY major tire seller/installer
will put new tires on the front any more.
Our local Wal-Mart displays a large sign that
explains the reasons. I expect Sam's has a
similar sign. I know that "my" Discount Tire
store has the same policy.
I suspect that NHTSA, NIIHS, and others all speak
that same line derived from accident investigation
projects.

Interesting about the liability issues. I had not known that.
I remember actually learning (and being taught in drivers ed back in the 60's) how to deal with a skid. I doubt they even talk about it these days and with front wheel drive, it's different anyway.
Turning into a skid is second nature to me but once you loose the front end you're just along for the ride in my experience.

I'm sure front wheel drive and maybe accident research have a part, but they won't put new on front of rear drive cars either.
I think sales strategy plays a lot larger part, rear tires on front drive just don't wear enough
just what I think!

With adherence to scheduled tire rotation, all the tires
should need replacement at about the same time as long as
none had to be replaced due to damage.

the real danger in tires blowing is the force in a circle as they come apart and turn into a whip of steel 6 inches across 6 feet long and going
500 miles an hour in the whip part that rips the top of the fender out and could go through the floor in front and get you. One went over a
rear fender in a bus and broke the top off and took a small kid out with it once on a bus from mexico one of the puc men told me once.
In my mind it is best to stop fast as possible so the tire doesn't get longer in the whip like motion, it is best with no one behind you to
if going straight to hit the brakes as hard as possible to stop the tire whipping damaging everything in reach like a sledge hammer going
100 miles per hour. If it is going straight, with vehicles this large it is always best to never brake unless going straight for it will flip.
If you make the wheels skid to a stop on the rims it is best than flipping the tire tread 6 feet long at 100 miles per hour for a mile or so trying to
stop slow. Freeze the wheel and skid to a stop as fast as possible but stay straight when stopping - pull off slowly But also look behind to not get
rear ended first. this is what i do with my vans, and it works. The rear tire almost ripped the gas fill line off the inside of the filler tube from the tread
slapping it with the force of a train. This will tear right through anything, it is best to freeze stop that tire and skid than roll at all.
when you hear that first big bang that sounds like the roof caved in, stop fast if no one is behind you, it will then flap like clapping but each time
sound like a bass drum from bonso - drummer of lead zep.
