Time to get Odie up and running. Carb is rebuilt, gas line is disconnected from tanks,to be run off small gas tank, electric fuel pump installed.

Now I need spark plugs, oil and oil filter, air filter, pcv.
Not changing wires yet, broke.

So does anyone have a short list of brands and numbers I need to get?

I looked online and see several numbers and brands. So what is the best overall?

Thanks in advance!

Joe, I'm new here and there may be a better source but I think most of what you are looking for is here:

http://gmcmotorhome.info/list.html

I've been making a cheat sheet. So far I have:

Temp Sensor Napa # TS-6469 (My son manages an Advance Auto Parts their part # for a BWD senor is WT203)

Oil Filter WIX 51049 (not sure if that is 455 AND 403 or 455 only)

Thermostat Robertshaw 330-180 or 330-195.

Kerry Pinkerton - North Alabama Had 5 over the years. Currently have a '06 Fleetwood Discovery 39L

This is one of the best changes you can make as it will actually give you an accuracy temp reading, as the stock was hot at 1/4 and boiling at 1/2.

See this for: http://gmcmotorhome.info/engine.html#sender

The Wix 51049 will fit both engines, I ran it on my 403 for years before I sold the coach.

I would run the 330-180, I used it in the other coach from 1998 thru 2011 when it was sold.

Your questions are the best reason to join GMC International. The annual parts book puts it all in one place. Well worth the money. Plus the rallies are fun.
The Ac/Delco Radpidfire #7 is no longer the recommended spark plug. They have cheapened it. Dick Patterson recommends an Autolite, when I find the reference I'll post it to you.
Just returned from 3000 mile journey, and just got in late yesterday.
For oil use only Wix, or Napa rebranded Wix. NO FRAMS.

I had not heard Dick recommend an Autolite but I could be wrong on this.

Here is what he said about a year ago:

> The spark plug issue was that AC DELCO changed suppliers for their spark plugs and the Rapidfire #7 'platinum ' plug was still made but was no longer a 'needle point' style similar to a Bosch -it now comes as a regular plug configuration in the electrodes .
> I like the features offered in the bosch style so I crossed to NGK (who used to make plugs for AC Delco) .
> I have been using NGK for several years on my oval track 355 chev customers ---tune and set-ups and they are a first class plug.
> There are 2 levels for the OLDS/GMC heat range application----first is an NGK "V" groove XR5 or the premium series NGK # XR51X (7355).
> I would check the gap and look for .038-.040----- if not avail locally ----both available from Summit on line .
> regards dick

I purchased the XR51X at O'Rielly's. They ordered them and had them in one day. The same price as Summit but without the high handling charge.

They have an electrode that looks like a needle. Very fine wire.

Joe,

Here is a link to the spark plug chart John Wright started...

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/5237/Spark_Plug_Application_Gu.pdf

As for the other items -- if you have an Advance Auto, I found they had the best in-stock inventory. Ask for parts for a 75 Toronado for the pvc and the filters -- I chose their purolator brand. The pvc may also need a new rubber fitment for the valve cover -- usually found on the Help! rack in the store.
If you also replace the filter it the other valve cover -- I like the purolator metal filter -- easier to install.
While others have mentioned WIX oil filters I use Mobil 1.

Tom,

Dick now recommends NGK spark plugs now. I don't have the number right now, but he also recommends 0.038 gap on them.

I was wrong about the Autolite plug recommendation. The recommended plug is the NGK XR 5 IX, gaped at 0.038. Need to get some myself.
