Landowner was selling his property and barn and desperate to get it
out of there. had no wheels and a nonfunctioning engine, requiring
some heavy equipment to winch it out of there, and an expensive tow
bill. He accepted my 500 dollar offer, and I was even able to get
re-imbursed for the tow from AAA.

Back when the economy tanked and the bottom dropped out of the market, I added up just the parts for the projects my coach needed. I came up with "I could buy a whole coach for that!." That lead to the thought "In six months, when the economy recovers, (right) I could sell the first one and end up ahead!" So we bought a 23 foot rear bath Birchaven.
After using the second coach for a while, we missed the "divider" (aka side bath) between a sleeping area and the living area we had in the first coach. But we liked the shorter coach for parking and the like. I also realized that I wanted something that I could fix once, and drive relatively trouble free into my 80's. (The year 2040 or so.) When I found a side bath Birch project, I bought it.
As the market for GMC's (and big boy toys in general) is still down, and looks to be flat for a while, I have three coaches.
Could be worse.

I bought a flooded 76 Eleganza for my car hauler project BEFORE I found this group. After reading and doing more research, it was pretty obvious that this is what I needed to have. Bought a 73 23' Sequoia but quickly realized it was just too small for us. Sold it to Ahamilton and started the hunt. Last month we acquired a 77 Eleganza II. Currently doing a renovation on the front and rear interior. The wife said the other day, "I didn't want one we had to renovate but oh well...."
We take our first long trip next month and that will tell if there is another in our future. I'd like to find one with solid mechanical and do a gut and build the interior we want. Not sure the wife will go for that. I've got lots, and LOTS of projects.

Just a note for people looking for coaches right now:
The prices of complete coaches remain low. The prices of parts and labor are as high as they ever were.
So... unless you want a project for reasons other than price, buy the "best" complete, usable, "rolling" coach that you can. (A coach that is capable of being used, and has been used recently.)
I do not believe the used coach prices are going up anytime soon so be picky in your search.
You'll thank me later.

we bought our first 26 ft Eleganza II in 2005 - had only 27,000 miles -
today it has 60,000 enjoyable miles.
Spent as much on it as we paid for it. Quad bags, Alcoas & Tires, Brakes,
Furnace, front bearing, New rubbers,
Macerator, MC, and several other things. What we wanted to do to it was a
new paint job, Interior blinds, plus some
other interior projects.
Then like others looking at coaches for sale - when we spotted a 77
Kingsley on Ebay with a asking price that was
not much more than what the cost to paint plus our first coach we decided
to buy it and let our children enjoy travel in
the 1st one. Our youngest daughter took 3 of her girls plus 3 of their
friends on a trip to the Oregon Coast this past summer.
We also took a couple of camping trips together last fall.
That's why we have 2. Both are getting good use.
We finished a 14,500 mile trip this past August - September and landing
home early this month.
This coming year we are looking at a trip to Alaska, Coos Bay and several
Cascader Rallies.
IN 2014 plans have started for the ROUTE 66 starting in Detroit - visiting
Car Museums.
