G'day,
I'm putting together a kit so that Peter Bailey can install valves in the inlet of the OEM air bags on his GMC and I can't remember
what size pipe fitting the inlet is. I THINK it's 3/8" pipe but it could be 1/4".
Can someone check for me please, I have a Harrison System on The Blue Streak.
Yes I know JimK sells kits but the shipping to Aus will make it non cost effective to send it.
Thanks,
Rob M.

Well, while Y'All are fooling with air bags, how 'bout telling me the size
of the end nuts? John Beaver and I need to swap at least one out in
Montgomery on Friday. Sure will help if we have the right size wrench with
us.

Thanks, Mac, that's what I thought, but CRS being what it is, and having
none of the old bags, I couldn't check.

Standard depth socket and decent ratchet trumps end wrench. A pipe wrench to hold the inlet just in case it spins out of the bag rather than the nut coming off of it.

Sully,
My 1-1/8" socket & 3/4" pull handle should do the job. Thanks for
reminding me to take along the pipe wrench.

The Sullybilt system utilizes one of the original airbag nuts. All other hardware is supplied in the kit. Keep one original bag and one original bag nut as a spare although I'd be surprised if you ever need it.

I have had a couple that required a flame wrench. This only works if you are not trying to salvage the removed bag.
A 1-1/8" flame wrench works well as a last resort.

We'll have ATF+Acetone & the HF & lots of other stuff -- including at least
a propane torch.
Hope this HF makes more than 3 raps before it breaks like the last one did.
:-( I returned it to HF without a mark on it but without the receipt. For
the $9.95 charge for a 2 year warranty extension, they gave me a new one.

Ken,
IIRC you just replaced a HF electric impact wrench that had lasted for years, the replacement died immediately!?
I make it a habit to copy the HF receipt and file it with the tool manuals I have.
By the way I was told by a HF Manager in Orlando that when they replace a broken tool the warranty starts over. I had never heard of
this policy anywhere before. My experience was that if you bought the tool on Jan. 1, 2012 it was warranted until December 31, 2012
even if it was replaced on July 1, 2012.
Regards,
Rob M.

That's right, my old HF 1/2" impact endured everything I could throw at it
for 4-5 years. Then I recently had a really tough nut to turn & it gave up
the ghost. The replacement I bought (maroon body rather than the
original's orange) rapped about 3 times on a lug nut & then spun freely.
I'm not good about keeping up with receipts but I hoped the pristine
condition of the wrench would convince them to give me a new one. They
did, but required that I purchase the 2 year warranty upgrade (24+3 months
total) for $9.95. With that, I don't have to present a receipt -- it's
registered. I'm a happy customer -- unless the replacement quits Friday
while we're mounting the set of wheels on John's coach.

Ken,
I hope your failed impact wrench was not a precursor, the one I have is orange bodied.
Maybe HF found someone in China that would make it cheaper and the maroon bodied version isn't as good as the orange bodied! ;-)

attaching the air to the bag problem,
where/how, do you attach a schrader valve if you do not put it on the bag
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/schrader-valve-for-air-bags/p26964-case-against-shut-off.html
how does this look when it is right? If anyone has time to help. thank you.

Mickey,
Here you go:

KenB is correct, in time the brass could get brittle and break off, however, when I read Ken's note it was the first time I'd heard
of that. However, I have noted that the cheap Chinese brass fittings sold by Harbor Freight and other stores are not as thick walled
as the quality fittings from Parker Hannifin or other US manufacturers.
If your REALLY concerned take the picture above to McMaster Carr and buy stainless steel fittings like the brass ones. You'll be
long gone before they break!
Regards,
Rob M.
