Hello fellow GMCers...
I'm another newbie and this is my first post. I just finished
winterizing yesterday, so
today I noticed it says "for use only in plastic pipes" on the jug of
pink stuff. Is ethanol
bad for copper? What Should I do? Please help, as the thought of
re-plumbing this
old transmode about scares me to death!

Corwin,

I have five jugs of potable system antifreeze in stock. Two are (were as is about gone), propylene glycol based, but the three newer (ACE Hardware on sale) are all labeled as containing denatured (not for drinking) alcohol. Those say Caution - Flamible- but they also say good for plastic or copper plumbing.

The only RV antifreeze that I have used is a propylene glycol based product.
I have used it for over 30 years in motorhomes which have had copper and plastic piping with no problems.

What product are you using that has ethanol in it?

If it has ethanol then it would likely be a denatured ethanol alcohol so that it could not be injected. I would be cautious putting this into my water system unless I knew what was added to make it unsuitable for drinking.

I would suggest sticking to the propylene based antifreeze.

I assume that this is some of the Article Ban Antifreeze that is on sale at Ace Hardware for $1.99/ gallon?

I filled mine with this, but I have the plastic pipes in my coach. I didn't really even look to see that the RV antifreeze had changes from propylene glycol to ethanol based. Would I assume that ethanol does the same bad things as it does in the fuel system?
