Well.. here's an interesting one:

My water heater won't fire up. It tries - but only stays on for 5, maybe 10 seconds. A subsequent attempt might stay on for 15 seconds...

So while troubleshooting - it fires up just fine when the door is open. Close the door and it shuts down within 5 or 10 seconds.

Sure sound like some kind of air flow issue to me...

Advice ??

Thanks,
Steve W

My furnace acted like that. Ended up replacing the board with a dinosaur board. Replaced a few switches and cleaned it out worked perfect after ward. Right after I rebuilt it now I don't need it!

More of an information than advice, GM upfitted coaches (and ALL 1973/1974's were GM upfitted) came with an electric water heater with optional engine assist.

It sounds like you are asking about a GAS powered water heater. So, you'll need to say what brand and model water heater. As I expect it to be something a PO added.

Steve,
Welcome to the group! Thought I'd try to catch you here as your 1st post is fading. When you get a chance, please go to the GMC Registry web site and send me the pertinent info on your coach. You can use the on-line form there.

Registration is on the boards for today...

And yes - it sure seems to be an added water heater.

It protrudes from the body just a bit (I'll post pics later) and someone fabricated a housing that blends in pretty good. And I find no electrical element or engine driven heat exchanger. There is a 110V water heater switch next to the buzz box though.

To be continued,
SW

The switch by the buzzz is OEM. GM was 120v and engine coolant loop only. Nothing to "fire" up.
