Fellow GMC'ers

I'm loading up the SUV with chain saws, generators and tools and headed to the Jersey Shore. Toms River area is where I'm going to help.

Right now, I'm in process of assembling a few folks to join me.

If you know of anyone in that vicinity who needs help, put me in touch and let me know how we can help.

They are not expected to have power for three weeks, and I'm certain there are many other needs that are unmet.

I plan on leaving tomorrow afternoon. It's a 7 hour haul from here. My cell is 304-219-3100

Rock on, Dolph. Good on ya and your crew. Y'all be careful. I hope
that the great State of Mississippi will be sending some relief up
that way. I know we're sending power crews and Salvation Army up that
way.

I have a cousin that lives in Toms River, she's OK but there's LOTS of people that need help badly!

As we say Downunder - Good On Yah, Mate!

You can bet that virtually all of these disaster
sites will be operating under I.C.S. which is the
Incident Command System.

Non-trained and non-invited volunteers will NOT
be allowed into any area operating under I.C.S.
I'm sure that "credentials" will be mandatory
for access.

Check with local Red Cross and/or Salvation Army
leadership to see what assistance they might
be able to use.

Mac, you took the words out of my mouth. There's a reason for having trained
personnel in the relief areas and for a command system. This is when the con
guys go to work. Hopefully Dolph is a part of a trained team and has the
credentials. In addition to the Red Cross and Salvation Army teams, several
religious groups across the US have trained teams for mud out, mobile
kitchens, tree removal, and whatever in addition to the agreements that the
utility companies have. One of the biggest utility crews in the East has
headquarters at Mt. Airy, NC just a hop skip and jump to the coast - Pike
Electric.

For those who are so inclined, the required I.C.S. courses are available on line. Check F.E.M.A. site. Having the credentials will help you assist, but sponsorship is better.
As a member of ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) and doing lots of hurricane support, I.C.S. is a requirement, along with additional training. No longer can you just show up and expect to be allowed to help.

By getting training and joining your city's CERT team and continuing training in the ICS and other courses and drills, you can be activated for local and mutual aid programs and be qualified (and welcome!) to help out in emergencies with the excellent command system that FEMA has developed with local first responders.
