Talked to a guy today about his TOAD. He bought it to tow from a guy who had already used it as a TOAD. It is a 95 SL2 with 125K miles, 1.6 dual overhead cam, auto, air, power windows, new alignment, good tires, good paint (other than some rock chips from the tow vehicle), nice interior. Everything works, never smoked in. It comes with a Blue Ox tow bar and is rigged and ready to tow including the light package and pigtail. No brake system. The guy has $3500 in it. I expect I can get it for a bit less.
I haven't seen it but had a nice conversation with the 65 year old second owner. He bought it to tow behind his new SOB but it is a bit too low for him to be able to get in and out of easily and he wants to get a small SUV to tow instead.
I've never owned a Saturn but driven and few and know they have a reputation for being pretty solid cars that should run for 2-300K miles.
My inclination is that this is a pretty decent option. The tow bar and installation is probably about $1000 plus the hassle of hooking up the lights. Thoughts on the suitability of this for a TOAD and the price?

I was previously thinking about using my 83 S10 but I'd need either a tranny pump (near a grand) or a driveshaft disconnect. The problem with the disconnect is that the delivery time is 6-8 weeks plus. In addition, my S10 is fine for me but if the wife is going to ride/drive it, I'll have to invest some time and money in it also. The AC won't hold a charge.
We'd like to drive the new coach down to the Gulf coast before Thanksgiving.
Thoughts? Other options? Anyone got a TOAD they want to sell that is remotely near me and cheap but good?
