Folks,
There is an awful lot of good information on the gmcphotos.com site. Some of those presentations are priceless. Is it possible from the site to download the entire presentation in question, or do I need to download and print each individual page? I would like to be able to store these locally on my PC/tablet so I have them available wherever I go.
If there is a link to download the presentations and I have just missed it, my apologies!

I do not think there is an easy way
a couple of months ago I proposed it would be better to post photos and
presentations on the gmcphoto store in pdf format.
than way the new "smart devices" like your tablet , and my iPod, could look
at them more easily.
here is an example I used
old link
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/coolant-recovery/p45793-coolant-recovery-a-too.html
new link
http://goo.gl/4PZoS
was not too popular (yet, but it will come) only got 50 hits
guess it was the topic or the sender ;>)

I really liked your idea. I love the stuff in PDF format I can easily store in my library on my iPad. I think it will eventually catch on too.

Gene,
Not sure what you mean by a 'sore point' but what you linked is exactly what I mean.
In a perfect world, I could take all these presentations with me on the road.

I wonder how a shared Evernote notebook would work? I'll see if I can do a
test set up.
I certainly don't want to discourage anyone, even PowerPoint is better than
nothing.
A wiki would be good, so that anyone could edit and update it, but a little
hard to take on the road.

Gene,
You do some really very nice presentation. It would be great to
migrate some of the pictures into a presentation like you do, but I
think that there are not enough hours in our day to come even close to
migrating pictures into albums format. Would be nice though.

[GMCnet] GMC Information (was GMCphotos website information) [message #188178 is a reply to message #188107] |
Thu, 25 October 2012 07:28 |
|
<warning> This will be a bit long but, please, hand on until the end.
</warning>
All of the responses to the original thread have been included below except
one (to date).
I'm fully aware and fully appreciate the work of those that create and
submit excellent technical information that is made available via a variety
of websites. I also appreciate those individuals that get it to the web via
one means or another. It not only takes work but it also takes some funding,
in most cases, to acquire and maintain the domains and the web hosting. Each
person engaged in these pursuits is appreciated. Without this collective
effort (as well as the GMCNet/Forum) all owners may have found the struggle
of keeping the GMC alive more daunting than imagined.
Having said that, my original submission (below) was the result of a concern
I've had since 2007. My biggest concern is with Billy and Gene -- who will
pick up their task, which includes administrative access as well as
protection of the domain, etc. As I originally submitted, it seems that we
need to come up with a plan.
Also, in my original reply I mentioned that it would be good to have all of
this information cataloged so that any person could come along in five years
and find the wealth of information more easily than the asking redundant
questions of knowing exactly what to type in a search field.
Gene has posted a lot of great information. That he's made PDF versions of
slide shows is great. I've done the same as have others. (By the way,
there's more than PowerPoint for doing slideware. BTW2 PowerPoint was first
a Mac-only product when it first appeared in 1987). I salute the efforts of
those that take the time to get it right.
My chief concern is that this great wealth of information is widely
distributed on various sites. Everyone keeping track of each other's sites
and putting in links (that could change or go dead) isn't an ideal solution.
Sure, it builds the ego of the individuals but it doesn't solve the issue of
sustainability.
We need a web-based repository of this information that is managed by a
group of individuals who can cooperate and communicate effectively to see
that the open project stays viable. Then, comes the expense of maintenance.
Since GMCMHphotos, GMCMHregistry, etc. successfully receive donations it
would seem feasible that GMCMHrepository could live on in the same vein.
I'm willing to help. Any takers?

Count me in. I'm new to the GMC community and don't much GMC knowledge
of my own to contribute, but I'd love the chance to help improve
accessibility to the information that's out there. I can provide
hosting and technical support, and I can write code.

CASH, dinero, etc. This will take good old cash to set-up and maintain. Anyone willing to step-up and collect initial cash donations. Set up as non-profit, so cash is tax deduction? Ideal would be a foundation , that would live past the initial enthusiasm.

Well, the motorcycle club I was in was a non profit educational org,
and they owned a house. And the educational part was more theory than
anything else. GMC is a non profit educational use, we are amassing
resources for the public good, and heck, not requiring payment.

Clubs can be "non-profit" or "not for profit" but contributions to them are not tax deductible for the donor.
I can give you chapter and verse of the tax code if you need it.

I need to step back from that commitment - my enthusiasm earlier this
morning has been tempered by the reality of my work schedule, and at
this time I don't see where I'll be able to devote time to this.
I do have some ideas for a couple of personal projects that the GMCNet
community might benefit from, but those are
I'll-work-on-them-when-I-can things, and I don't want to be in a
position where people are depending on them just yet.
Sorry :\

Having some experience as a non-profit leader (34 years), I offer what I believe to be true from experience. A foundation, even if we could qualify, requires a filing of a Internal Revenue Service Form 990 every year. It's a pain, and a Certified Public Accounting firm will do it. About $1000 per year in these parts. It might be cheaper to get a Public Accountant to do it. It's amazing how often it seems the yearly deadlines come up. (It's a little easier nowadays, because there's a short form 990-N postcard return, a Form 990-EZ like the 1040 EZ "short form", only if you took in $50,000 or less that year, but still a pain. And, someone has to know that.) Two or three deadlines, really, first to ask for an extension before May 15, normally, and then the August 15 for another extension request and the the drop dead deadline of November 15.(Providing you have a calendar year fiscal year.) IRS is keeping better track these days on non-filers, and will revoke your status after three years non-filing . You can get back your status, just pay taxes on income in the years you are in arrears. (Please don't ask how I know this!) Emery Stora may well be right about the impossibility in the first place, I don't know. I think the present setup is great, though, like the GMC, it is idiosyncratic to some extent, but you can navigate it pretty easily after you get used to it, if you can keep from being distracted by the pretty pictures. Just what I think I know.

I just submitted the IRS 990-N for the ham radio club
of which I am the treasurer. It's a very simple deal.
The club is a non-profit Oklahoma corporation but
NOT charitable. Total income (dues for under 100
members) for a year is under $3,000 so no problem.
The standard "tax year" is from 1 July to 30 June.
