I had a GMCer stop by on Sunday and we looked at several things on his coach. One of his complaints was the rear mounted battery (1973 coach) would not crank over the Onan. After checking the battery voltage and the condition of the battery cables we moved to the starter itself.
The appropriate voltage during cranking was not there at the starter even though the battery read 12.6 volts at rest. A few more minutes with the volt meter determined that there was a problem with the positive battery cable.
The positive battery cable feeds through the lower Onan case with a brass bolt and nut with a couple of phenolic washers insulating it from the Onan case. The feed through connection was not making a good connection. We removed the whole feed through thing and disassembled it. After cleaning it and the attaching cables thoroughly we eliminated the problem. While we were there we also cleaned all of the negative terminals.
I mention this here because this is the second coach that I have seen and fixed this failure on.
