Looking for a double wide right hand front seat. Don’t remember what year GMC built
these, but I have grandkids and would like to replace my single. If I can’t find one can someone
send a picture. I think it fits on the original seat post! Thank for the info regarding Parked on hill.
I let it set for a day, level, and it’s just fine. Joe

Joe,
Here is a photo of a buddy seat in a 73 coach -- note that it has no arm rests. And I have read that only the buddy seat in 23 ft coaches has the ability to swivel -- perhaps someone with a 26 ft coach can answer.
Also, the seat overlaps the engine compartment cover -- so you cannot tilt it up and lean it against the dash.

Bruce,
Thank you for confirming that the buddy seat on the 26 ft coach does not swivel -- I presume because only on the 23 ft is there room with the entry door immediately behind the passenger seat.

I drove a 26' Glacier and the buddy seat swiveled.
As to the hatch not being able to lift it straight up, no problem. Just get
it out of the way. If the coach is running right and maintained, there's
only an annual need to get under the hatch. Of course, if you're maintain
your coach with duct tape and baling wire than you'd probably want access
more often.

I may be going slightly off topic here but I have to ask Byron what do you do with all that carpet on top of the hatch cover if your pulling the thing out of the way?
I realize that the carpet in mine is not original but I would guess the install method is. there is only 2 slits running down the sides of the hatch (front to back of the coach) so the only way to lift the hatch is forward to the dash. If the carpet was cut along the front would it then allow the hatch to lift while driving? or is there a lip it fits into? I might have to go out and have a look.

Adam,
Most if not all who have had the front re-carpeted have the carpet
attached to the hatch cover and separate from the cockpit carpet. You
can cut the carpet and attach it the engine cover. Not a big deal!

There is a lip that the front edge of the hatch slips under, holding it down. GM did not depend on carpet to hold the hatch in place.
On my #2 coach (the one I use) the carpet is NOT attached to the hatch, I normally roll it up, to rest near the dash. Then lift the hatch. Both the carpet and hatch can be removed if needed.
On both my other coaches the carpet is attached to the hatch and cut at the edges. Might be one of the little things that make the engine noise louder in the cab than my #2 coach.
I have seen coaches with the carpet attached to the hatch but not cut at the forward edge. The carpet works like a hinge, making the hatch "lift only" and not removable. I would not like that for long.

Mine is glued to the hatch, with a flap on the rear the depth of the step. The step and carpet flap have velcro<tm> on the edges. Lift the flap, loosen the hold downs, and lift the hatch away with its carpet attached. Sirum did it this way for the PO, and it works well.

SeanKidd wrote on Thu, 25 October 2012 07:03 | ... I am looking for a decent 60-40 rear seat from an SUV to use, this way the passenger seat would be a high back with head rest and the "middle" seat could fold down to a cup holder/storage arrangement. In the upright position it would act like the buddy seat. I have yet to find exactly what I'm looking for but would entertain suggestions.
|
While I did not like it and the swivel is useless. (Due to the dinette.) My '73 26 foot came to me with a split bench from a 70's to 80's GM car, The driver's is a single seat, the passenger is a wider seat with a fairly wide fold down arm rest. Both were electric... neither worked. I have replacements... someday I'll install them.
A buddy seat could be a good bed for a small person.
I was thinking a center bench seat from a van might make a good buddy seat. But never really looked for one.
