Once again its "Stupid question time." :)
Do those who restore GMCs have "donors" already there for those of us
who seem to have trouble obtaining one locally?
If so let me know. I would Prefer a 78 GMC for a restoration. I am
still looking for one, but if they have one, well, why fight to get
one
when a coach is already there for a restore?
and the final question for this line of questioning, Can they put in a
washer dryer and make it look factory (GRIN)
Oh well back to the GMC nets regularly scheduled threads.

I think the word restore can be either misunderstood or?
My wife claims what I am doing is restoring, I do not.
My plan is to use it 3 to 5 times a year as I improve it. To me improve it is to fix what is broke, and upgrade as I feel I need to for it to be usable.
I do agree that anything can be done with it if you have the time and the $,
If you had to have a washer/dryer, I have seen a machine that did both. . I bet it could fit where the drawers are , then you could put drawers under all the settees for your clothes.
I do see more than one person here has more than one. I assume they either buy to use as a doner and then do that. Or they buy as a donor and decide it is worthy to keep on the road.
The biggest thing you need to decide is do you buy a basket case and have it towed somewhere, do you buy a good used one and either use it, or restore as you say.Or you can find a few that are real nice, to me expensive, thou probably worth it. One that you could see our part of the world with with no concerns. . I personnally enjoy working on mine when in drive way and hope to not have to on side of road.
Keep looking, I know I would buy another one, wife would shoot me, But ,,, she has to be mad at someone , might as well be me.

I have three due to my search for the "perfect" GMC. (Each of us has a different idea of what makes a perfect coach.) I am hoping on NOT using any of my coaches for parts... for my coaches or anyone else's.
If I where to buy a GMC today, I would stay away from any basket case. Complete usable coach prices are down (just like all used big boy toys) but prices of parts are still high and labor MIGHT have came down a little bit. So the current best buys are in complete maybe older but "higher end" coaches. There was an excellent example of what I am talking about at the TI rally, a Classico a lot like this one:

<http://algood.hoodbiz.org/38501/trailers-mobile-homes/1976-gmc-28-rv-remodeled-clean-everything-operational_19549063.html>
But some do NOT want a complete "ready to use" coach... the fun is in the work!

Sammy,
Re the washer dryer -- yes, it has been done and the same owner installed a dishwasher as well.

AS Dennis has illustrated, sure, but why? With a 26' coach with limited fresh and black water storage, wouldn't it just be more practical to go to a laundromat once in a while, if you're out that long?????

Well, who wants to spend two hours of their lives at a laundromat once
or twice a week? Perhaps you would usually only want to use it when
you have hookups.
The dishwasher may be a win though, at least in a normal residential
set up, they use less water than doing them by hand. Just make sure it
is full when you run it.

Sammy,
There was a 23 footer at the Santa Rosa Convention that a bachelor owned who had installed a washing machine. I don't know if was a
combination machine that did both.

I did see a 4 tank mod on one of the common web pages, he used it for fuel,
but I'd use it for gray water. Shift the fuel tanks forward one, and add
gray water plumbing, perhaps a way to shift gray water into the black water
tank. But I'd make sure I knew how much water the clothes washer used and
that I was happy with it before I added tanks just for it.
