This may or may not be of interest to others but thought I would throw it out there.

The information below provides a look at the RV industry as a whole from 1965 thru 1978. The source was Automotive News, April 25, 1979.

............SHIPMENTS

...........MOTOR........TOTAL
YEAR...HOMES.........RVs.......GMCs
1965....4,710.......192,830
1966....5,710.......219,810
1967....9,050.......244,430
1968...13,200.......333,100
1969...23,100.......400,600
1970...30,300.......380,300
1971...57,200.......451,000
1972..116,800.......582,900
1973..129,000.......528,800...2059
1974...68,900.......295,800...1664
1975...96,600.......339,600...1656
1976..156,100.......215,200...3260
1977..280,200.......533,900...2403
1978..157,200.......389,900...1879

GM was well aware of the increasing RV shipments (pre GMC MH announce) and the market for the new GMC Motorhome looked very attractive. Little did anyone know the energy crisis (starting in October 1973) would significantly affect the RV market.
