I hope to shortly start removing my interior to redo floor, this carpet has got to go.
I am leaning towards a vinyl plank product that home depot has. I am not sure if hard wood would be good due to coach not parked in heated garage,
I am not sure how I would do step area, or where transition from new floor to drivers area would be done.
any and all input is appreciated.
Thanks
Bgk

Brian,
I have done Pergo flooring in 2 of my coaches:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g5344-pergo-floor-install.html
and
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g5976-pergo-floor-install-stretch.html

The step and drivers area should be done in carpet as it is also used
as a sound deadner. WAAAY too much work to put it on the steps and
have it survive!

we installed the alure plank floor the stuff that is only 1.79 a foot. used 4 boxes bought 5. we installed it this spring and so far think it is great. the first trip out the heat from the muffler on the passengers side caused it to lift under the barrel chair. we simply pushed it back down. seems to have stayed as it has not lifted there since.
we will get back to you on how it survives the winter. (or it might be better if someone were to ask me in the spring as I have a bad memory)

what holds the black stuff, what is the black stuff, and what holds the finish to the black stuff, weight? sound proofing? insulation factor? thank you

if i may humbly ask. best regards,

This looks great. easy to clean. using rugs are easy to clean or replace. looks good.

what is the price for the whole thing and list of material and tools. if not to much to ask.

thank you: if possible to reply if not just asking.

best regards.

I'm doing my floor also. Is the Pergo and the Alure floors considered
a floating floor?

The black material is a foam rubber pad between the flooring and the
floor itself. Pergo flooring and others are consider a floating floor
which means that they are held in place by the side moldings. The pad
allows the floor to moves side to side and end to end as it expands
and contracts with the temp and humidity. It is about 3/16 inch thick
and has and has no other properties. I use a little duct tape to hold
it in place until the floor is down, it would move when it is
finished. It also comes in other colors depending on who makes it
and some use a pink rosin paper, but I like the foam stuff best. Cost
is $30 to $50 a roll and one roll will do the coach. The first set of
pictures was a 26' coach and the second was of the 30' stretch.

Material cost vary depend on which style, finish and manufacture that
you buy. I probably had right at $200 for all materials and I make
and finish my own side and end moldings as they can added another
$150+ if you buy the matching stuff from the manufacture. I also
screw my moulding to the floor and not nail so I could remove them if
I ever had to repair the flooring.

Tools are very simple, cut off saw, hand saw, rubber hammer, 12 oz
hammer, drill, setting block and setting bar. Just read the
instruction for the floor that you buy.

The main reason we went with the Pergo style flooring is that it is so
easy to clean and keep clean. We could never get all the sand and
dirt out of the carpets when we were in Florida. Just sweep and use a
damp rag and it is done.

thank you so much. what is the rubber material and where can you get that, is darker or lighter better for the wood like floor?

lighter makes it look larger but shows dirt, what one do you have it looks great?

I want to do this some day. and get it together where did you buy it all? Lowes or home depot i cannot go back and read. right now.

I installed Pergo in our GMC and later on, in our SOB. Beautiful stuff but
it is impossible to keep looking clean. I finally ripped the stuff out of
the SOB (sold the GMC) and installed a single piece of very expensive,
floating, vinyl/linoleum and it looks gorgeous and always looks clean.
Plus, it is much easier to clean than the Pergo. We just finished a one
month trip and my wife will never have a Pergo or Pergo type floor again.

Thank You!
One small change, insert the word "not" after would and before move in
this sentence. Also change would to "will".

corrected sentence below

I use a little duct tape to hold it in place until the floor is down,
it will not move when it is finished.

You will need to visit the local big box stores to see what is
available in your area. I personally like a lighter floor as is
appears to make the area larger and it brightens the inside of the
coach. You can buy flooring at either Lowes, HD or at other flooring
suppliers in your area. Most carry several brands and it can get
pricey depending on what you select and I assure you that's the one
your wife will like best will be the most expensive, but you only need
about 2 boxes to do the 26', Remember, you get what you pay for! I
chose to use a higher grade of flooring for both finish and
warrantee. Some of the less expensive grades of flooring will not
wear as well. If you look at the first set of pictures you can see
that I had installed ceramic tile in the coach with the carpet when I
did the interior rehab. We really liked the tile and it was very easy
to clean and never had any issues with it in the coach. It was
actually a PITA to get it out as I had used a latex modified thinset
cement when I installed 8 years earlier. For those of you that use
you coach less that 30 days a year, vinyl flooring can be a good
alternative, but I have seen issue with scuffing, denting and minor
cuts long term. We are in our coach almost 120+ days a year and the
Pergo brand name flooring has shown no wear or other issues in our
last 2 coach installations. There are a number of good brands
available at most of the stores

I installed Pergo in our GMC and later on, in our SOB. Beautiful stuff but
it is impossible to keep looking clean. I finally ripped the stuff out of
the SOB (sold the GMC) and installed a single piece of very expensive,
floating, vinyl/linoleum and it looks gorgeous and always looks clean.
Plus, it is much easier to clean than the Pergo. We just finished a one
month trip and my wife will never have a Pergo or Pergo type floor again.

So, Steve....would you give up the brand name of the flooring and where you got it? Sounds like just what I'm looking for...Smile

I used carpet tiles from FLOR. These are 19" x 19" that are held in the
corners with adhesive "dots". Lots of different colors, styles. Lowes and HD
have some but higher end floor companies sell them too. The advantages are
many. If one tile gets soiled take it up and replace it. Keeps sound down as
the backing is a heavy rubber material. Very easy to install. Just a razor
knife and a box of tiles. www.flor.com

Thanks

There is a little ramp that goes upwards between the bathroom and closet in the rear.

I am thinking of a pergo type floor. but was not sure how to handle that transition.

>> vinyl/linoleum and it looks gorgeous

This is interesting, can you put it in and take it out without a lot of trouble? in case on would like too.

off topic on point:

I accepted any context and pictures in the mind, some don't even speak english so as long as it gets the picture

in the mind i don't care what it looks like. Also i can't do it right anyway. So there, spelling, grammar, phonology, semantics

inflections, syntax, morphology of language used to communicate with me, is a free for all. I would rather see someone

write something and see their thoughts than them be scared to do it and not get their great ideas. So spell wrong, put it up

and to hell with the rules. The value of a good idea is more important. or anyones feelings.

it is more fun that way anyway, see what happens. :-/

THose that want to make it perfect, good on you, those that don't better.

some times a great mistake is a better way to do something.

Jon,
How is the layout in the back of your coach? Do you have a perminate
bed or still have the davos seats or what? In the first coach I took
out the rear ramp as I put a full size bed in the back with a lift so
I could use the rest for storage. I carpeted the area from the edge
of the bath/storage module to the back.

or
http://www.bdub.net/bed_lift/index.html

Have you reviewed the pictures of the 26" pergo floor installation?
Show how the floor was done in the rear.

i think you have a good design. where the front entry door is, put the wood look, carpet the fridge or bath back and the steps over the motor.

that is a good mixture of designs to make cleaning and warmth from the lou, and the sound from the motor, i like the idea

of a see through top for the motor or at least a port hole from a boat to spray for fire if you see it, thick glass port hole 12 inch diameter or so.

The outboard motor engine lift motor to raise the bed for storage is a great idea 12 volt motor auto lift, with carpet all in the storage area.

another great idea. It it is not a water bed for water storage. just kidding. but could work with a heater under it if you were going to stay a while

and jack up the rear with support for the water weight. wood floor look in the doorway to the steps seems like the way to go.

screwed down like mentioned before so you can replace the bad parts when you want. no glue, with rubber mat, etc. seems like a quality idea.

if you can't read it - don't read it - that is the question. shake spare. tire. :-)

I better go to work before i get kick off here.
