I can't seem to find where I read that a roller cam won't work with the stock intake.

So, does it?

I pulled the intake off the parts coach today, and the roller lifters were, ah, interesting. Looked like the PO made em work with a bench grinder.

Dolph,

The link below will take you to JimB's website where he talks about custom motors. If you scroll down you will come to a picture of
an engine with a roller cam. The lifters had to be modified like this to clear the bottom of the OEM manifold:

I have Caddy 500 in Sydney that is going to be run on LPG. I did not use a roller cam in it. I did buy a nitrided cam..

That's it, exactly. Based on how clean the internals are, I think I may have a short rebuild in order as opposed to something more extreme.

It's unfortunate that the previous builder did such a sloppy job of the modification on the engine in my parts coach.

Dolph,
Lifter is only a minor problem compared to the distributor gear.
We finally have a roller cam that allows the use of stock dist. gear.
Bronze and phenolic gears are only for short runs.
I know this by past experience as the bronze particles ate up the 3 engines
we built up.

Yes, the billit roller cam cannot use the original soft, untreated steel dist gear.      There are a couple of ways to fix this issue, one is using a nitrite hardened dist gear another is to use a 2 pieces cam that has a soft steel gear to mate up with the soft steel original dist gear.  Jim K. is right in that bronze or phenolic gears are for short term race application.  Using those you would have to have a glove box full of them to get cross country.  This is something we have dealt with on our motors from the beginning.

Dolph,
 
There are no mods needed on a 455 if you use the correct parts.  You will need to grind the intake a little to clear the valve train on the 403 motor but it will work if properly modified.
