Just picked up a HD ant. anybody had any experience with mounting one where the old ant. is. Mine has a built in rotator so i have to do some wiring but just wondering if it is worth all the trouble?

Have you tried using the old antenna? It may pick up the digital signals just fine without changing out the antenna.

The old analog antennas work fine with the digital signals. They are in a similar frequency range. Antennas are generally a passive device. Most RV antennas used do have a signal amplifier, either in the antenna head, or the other end of the cable, hidden in the connection box in the coach. Use only one amplifier.
Digital antennas do need to be aimed a little better than the old analog. An advantage to being able to rotate the antenna head.
I say, since you have purchased the newer antenna, go for it. The OEM antenna om my coach is very tired and semi-defunct. I do have a Winter project of replacing it with new Wingard, picked up in Elkhart.

I havent tried the old antenna I just assumed it was analog and everything is digital and i would have to have a converter to use it but that would be for the TV right not the antenna. My original is in really bad shape. Maybe if I can find one in better shape I will replace it and use it. The HD is a small one my brother in law bought but didnt use.

I bought a Jack and mounted it on the old uprights. It's made for that
purpose. Then I found out the connection between the roof and the interior
is bad. So, I bought an interior antenna with a booster and it works well. I
got the RCA antenna at Walmart. It's long and thin. Around Louisville, KY I
get over 20 channels. I got a few more in Indianapolis. On a recent trip to
Milwaukee I was able to pull in 40 channels some of which were redundant.

I recently purchased an attachment for my Winegard antenna that is a director/ reflector that fastens to the bottom of the antenna head. This was designed to allow it to pick up the HD signals better.

It works very well and I highly recommend it.

I bought it at Camping World.

My old Winegard works just fine if I jiggle it.  As soon as I replace the (cracked) coax, I expect it will do even better.  I like the idea of a built - in rotor though.,  Ted, a picture of the thing?  Or make n model?

Yup, I bought the same two years ago in Quartzite. I had marginal reception on 4 channels...maybe 25-30%. After installing it, reception on same channels went to 50% which ment there was no dropout. It is one of the only times I purchased something that when it said "double the results" I actually got double. I also recommend it. No tools required to attach. Takes about 5 minutes which includes time needed to climb the ladder and walk across coach to antenna and get back down.

There is nothing about antennas that is
specifically analog or digital. Most of
the digital stations are now on UHF and
a combined VHF/UHF antenna will work
just fine. There are, however, antennas
now available that emphasize UHF coverage
and consequently will be an improvement
for the digital station reception.

If your TV is an analog set, converters
should be available used at minimum cost
now that most folks have replaced most
of their old analog sets. I recommend
that you try to find a Channel Master D2A
model, especially if your analog TV set
has an S-Video input capability. The D2A
is the only one I know of that has S-Video
output and the picture quality can be far
better than with other converters.

Ted,

If your existing antenna is a Winegard then check out their website. They have upgrade heads available. The antenna doesn't care if the signal is analog or digital.

Looks like a UHF yagi.  It should help if there's room atop your coach.  Neither Zeb Jr nor I could fine the end of the coax in my Norris upfit, so I broke the coax inside the from cap and put a connector in it beside the dome light panel on the drivers side.  My PB has the normal Winegard broadband amp in the cabinet over the dinette.

My GMC came with one of these (wired rotor control model) Since it was painted the same as the rest of the roof I'm guessing it was vintage 1995.
When its rotor quit last year I replaced it with the RF remote control version.
http://www.mini-state.com/

It works quite well and looks great, plus I don't have to worry about leaving it up.

The RV model has mounting feet for attaching to the roof:

got the RCA antenna at Walmart. It's long and thin. Around Louisville, KY I

Jack is an HDTV (digital) replacement antenna that fits on the boom of the
antenna originally installed on 90% of the motorhomes since the 70's.
