I have what I think is original 2 door fridge, ac/dc only.
I can not find any model numbers or labels as I seek door seals, assuming I have origianl unit, does anyone have model number?
Also, I have seen listed on line reference to roof vent needed if we change to 3 way unit, I have what i think is a roof vent, did all coaches have a roof vent over frig?
thanks in advance,
Brian

Open the refrigerator door and look at the bottom left side for a metallic looking sticker. If it is intact, it should have the model and serial number on it. I have the same problem, and the sticker on mine was obliterated by rust.

I don't think the ones with 12VDC/120VAC refrigerators came from the factory/upfitter with vents, but many have been retrofitted. As near as I can tell from the manual, the non-LPG refrigerators use living space air circulated from the vent at the bottom of the fridge, back to the coils, and out the vent at the top of the fridge.
If you stick with the electric refrigerator and airflow scheme, you need to make sure the external (side and roof) vents are sealed off so the living space heating and cooling systems can work effectively.
This may or may not be the correct manual for your unit http://www.palmbeachgmc.com/gmc/norcold/norcold_owner_manual.html

I was mistaken. The manual says you can use either outside air or living space air to cool the condenser.
If you chose to use outside air, make sure the air can come in the bottom rear of the compartment and can get out the top. And make sure that venting chamber is not open to the living space.

Brian,

The roof vent required for a gas burning reefer is a relatively large item. There also has to be an ventilated access door in the coach side. When the early coaches were built, many had no exterior vents. Then GM discovered that, in warmer places, the Norcold electrics just could not quite manage the load. This lead to a recall that got the roof and side vents cut in. I am told that most coaches got this mod.

So, if you have a lump on the roof about 8" wide and 18" long and a louvered door behind the reefer, you probably have the vents you need. All you need now is a gas line. You can use the existing 12V for the control board, but it will probably be undersize to run the 12V heater as that draws quite a bit of power.

There was a problem with that mod on my coach. The individual that did the mod never plugged the original vents to the coach interior. I discovered this at about 20° in Minnesota. I quickly found enough bubble wrap to plug the external vents.

I have a copy of the manual you listed, Info is worth keeping, but it did not have the model number listed. My book has a different cabinet serial listed on it than yours, which I asume is serial number. But thta still does not cross to a model number.

Matt, I do have the roof vent you mention, also vented cover. I am interested in the interior vents that you plugged. Where would I find them to verify if they are plugged or not?

Also, bedind mine , on the side walls there appear to be cleats that maybe one time maybe help a board which if I am assuming correctly would have seperated my unit from the rear access. As if it was boxed in in the rear. Should I be able to see the back of my fridge when I open outside access door, or should I have to remove something additional?
I would still like to find the proper model number to this fridge if I could
Thanks
Bgk

Brian,
The vents to the interior are above and below the installed reefer. Most I have seen are covered with a black screen.

My coach has nothing like the cleats you report, so I can only guess that maybe it did have a panel there before the exterior vent mod.

Every coach that I have seen, when you open the out side reefer panel, you are looking at the back of the unit. It is reported that this space needs a baffle with an absorption unit as they require the convection to pull air where it needs to go.

Those cleats are to hold a baffle board that directs the incoming air to direct it to the bottom of the coils.

Here is a link to some pictures of how I insulated the compartment and of the baffle.
