Paul, not trying to be obtuse or anything, but where in the link provided
did it say unit was LPG?

Noi,

You got me there ,I think Alltimers is coming on.
When I saw the LD Portable Air Conditioner and it had to be exhausted ,I
thought it was Liquid Gas operated .
There is an Email ,hat has words spelled incorrectly .The first and last
letter are correct but the middle letters are not ,but you can still read
the Words, just like the middle letters were correct .I think I did just
that.
I think I saw LPG instead of LG ,there Company abbreviation
Thanks again.

Paul,

Thanks for the laugh! Quite often I get a chuckle about some of the stuff that gets said around here. For the most part we're a
bunch of old farts that are set in their ways and ideas. We seem to defend things we say when they don't make sense. The one big
difference between us and younger generations is that we don't get nasty!

I've read some appalling things on a couple of other forums I frequent now and then; it is amazing what some people will "say" when
they know that there is no way the other party can "get them!"

BTW they sell LOTS of these types of A/C's Downunder, I bought one to cool the master bedroom of our terrace house (townhouse) built
in 1876 as it was not possible to fit a window unit in the window above the French doors. It didn't work worth a damn and I took it
back the next day.

Regards,
Rob M.

Such a critter is theoretically possible but ONLY if there
is a means to exclude the air used to cool the condenser
from the interior that is to be cooled.

I saw no such capability in the small picture on the site.

They are being sold as "spot" coolers in stores such as
Lowe's, Home Depot, and others.

BTW, there are MANY applicances now being sold in the USA
from the LG company. Consumer Reports rates them quite highly.

Am I ever relieved to know that my first impression was correct -- someone
is more dyslexic than I.

I suppose it could be LPG if you were a member of the DNA (National
Association of Dyslexics).

Mac et al,

They run on electricity and have a hose for the hot air that you stick out a window.

LG stands for Lucky Goldstar a Korean company.

Hi, Rob.

I haven't had time to work on the sink discharge
line yet. Sure enjoyed your visit and assistance!

I would expect that the "exhaust duct" would
have to have an I.D. of at least 15 cm!

Wouldn't there also need to be a companion intake
duct for the system to work?

Might it not be feasible to make an outlet for
that/those duct(s) in a sheet of plywood or other
flat sheet that would replace a pane (or two) of
glass in an existing window?

All this is assuming that the device actually
does cool and dehumidify your interior air!

And thanks for the origin of the name "LG."
I wonder how long I'll remember that!

Mac,

There are two air circuits; one that sucks in room air that go over the evaporator and another that sucks in room air that goes over
the condenser. The circuit that goes over the condenser is dumped outside through a discharge line of about the size you noted but
it could have been a bit smaller. It was between 4 - 6 inches for those of you that are metrically challenged! ;-)

The terrace house we live in was built in 1876 and has French doors from the master bedroom that open out onto a veranda. The hose
was too short to reach up to the fan light window above the French doors. The instructions that came with the unit noted that the
exhaust line was a fixed length and if it was extended it would affect the performance and void the warranty.

Regards,
Rob M.

I have been using one of this type A/C units in our home bedroom for several years. I suspect a normal wondow air conditioner is "better" but ours worked OK, and this style will fit in a window where a normal residential window A.C unit would be impossible or difficult to fit. Kept our room cool enough on the 35+C days we had in Toronto this last summer.
As we hope to have central A/C by summer 2013, this unit is for sale CHEAP. Pick up in Toronto ONLY. I could see someone with one or no roof A/Cs on a motorhome using one of these.

we had one of those in a Bed and breakfast in Rome, I suppose they didn't allow ugly ol window ACs hanging out all over in the historic part of the city...

It had 2 hoses and they had cut holes in the window panes to feed them through.

Worked well enough, it was a big one tho

Friends have one of these upstairs in their cottage. Works excellent. The hose goes out thru the wall like a drier hose.  I always thought LG stood for Live Good.

I have a Lucky Goldstar roll about A/C unit which works just fine.  I use it as a backup in a closet sized room which contains a bunch of (critical) microwave and multiplexing gear for our Atlanta operation.  I ran the duct (regular 4 inch plastic flex duct) through a tile in the dropped ceilingn which constitute thje return air plenum in the building.  It's set five degrees above the regular A/C and so far, works just fine.  A panel in a window would do handsomely.
