Gene,
I read the information very carefully and would like to comment. Plugging the crossovers with Mondello or Paterson block off plates
is OK if only the bottom of the crossover passage that is exposed to the lifter valley is cracked. If BOTH the passage exposed to
the lifter valley AND the bottom of the carb plenum is cracked will keep exhaust gasses out of the lifter valley, however, it would
be possible (depending on how big the crack is) for engine vacuum to draw oil vapors from the lifter valley into the carb plenum. It
would be a vacuum leak at the very least.
We are back in Houston and i have a cracked manifold that the crossover will be filled with Hard Blok. This is the material that the
drag racers fill their engine blocks with in lieu of water.
I am hoping that a manifold with a cracked crossover filled with Hard Blok stop oil vapors from being sucked into the carb plenum
and stop vacuum leaks.
Hopefully I'll have time to get to it with all the other stuff I have to do between now and Oct 22nd when I fly out.
Regards,
Rob M.

Yes it will,
and read here

using the OEM manifold is a good way to go

YES.
The purpose of the plates is to greatly reduce the temperature of the intake manifold. The prevents several things.
1. Boiling gas in the carb especially on shut down.
2. Carbonizing of coil on the bottom of the manifold.
3. Cracking of the manifold from over heating.
It will also help in some cases of vapor lock problems.
You will have to make some allowance for your current hot air choke. Either go to electric or wrap a piece of copper tubing around the exhaust for a heat source for the choke.
While you have the manifold off, inspect it very closely for signs of cracking in the area directly below the carb. I sand blasted mine and repainted it but that is not entirely necessary but it make is much easier to inspect after it is cleaned up for painting.

Rob,
I hope you do get a chance to try the Hardblock as that in combination with the block-off gaskets should be enough to use even a cracked manifold if my thinking is right. I can't imagine that a vacuum leak would make it around the Hardblock, but it will be a great project if it works.
Let us know if you do get a chance to give it a try.

If you do, keep the old one. Lots of people would love to have it if it isn't cracked.

If you hooked your ele choke up to a "keyed" source of 12vdc and do not
have an ele fuel pump. That delay that you experience while cranking the
engine to get fuel to the carb, and fill the float bowl is enough time for
the choke to start pulling off. A better source of 12vdc is the alternator
output lug. No 12vdc until the engine is running and that makes for a
slightly longer warm up period on before the choke pulls off.
