We got home finally last nite; had a wonderful trip , out and back.
Saw a lot, learned a lot; met some old friends and made some new ones.
Made some memories that can never be taken away.
That was GREAT rally.
Special kudos to Kim Weeks, our rally coordinator. She, once again, did
the wonderful job that
continues the long string of similar people in that job.
One special memory happened at a grocery store.
We stopped at a FAREWAY store in Manchester, Iowa; a smallish grocery
store in a small mid-West chain.
They feature a real butcher shop in their stores and sell the very best
meat.
We bought some T-bones and some sirloins. Cooked outdoors on a charcoal
fire makes them
as good or better than any of Ruth-Chris' best. [and a whole lot
cheaper too]
But what was special was the checkout.
The drill goes like this: You unload your selections from your cart,
place them on the counter in front of the cashier [a SYT]. She scans
items and places in a bag and thence in a shopping cart on her side of
the counter.
When the purchases are paid for; she [the Sweet Young Thing] closes down
her position and say 'I'll follow you to your car", pushing the cart.
In this case she followed me to my coach, and entered it with my 4 bags
of grub, about $45 worth.
Placed them on the counter. And said--Have a great day!
I am sure she would have put stuff away if I wanted.
This was a culture shock for us.
Back here in ''beautiful upstate NY", you might get a shrug and a smurk
from a surly young boy as the trunk door slams.[if you're lucky]
This is just one of the great aspects of a GMCMI rally.
To be exposed to a culture from a far different place. It is one of the
reasons we decided long ago to spend our leisure money in the good old
USA where we speak the same language and don't have an attitude.
If you can possibly afford it, make an effort to participate in the
GMCMI rallies. They are rewarding, life changing and can never be
duplicated by local events.
We are looking at well over 10,000+ miles this year, counting the past
spring trip South, mid year excursions on weekends and the Amana fall rally.
Get out and use 'them' coaches!! [while you can]

SHE's down with it too. The severe sore throat I had for the first 4-5
days there didn't develop into a cold.

That cold must have been an undocumented anomalous feature of the GMCMI
convention. I also got one. Totally laid me out for 3-1/2 days.

Laurie and I are also both sick. We are feeling a little better today, but the coach still sits in the driveway where I parked it when we came home. I have not put it away at the airport yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Ken,
Looks like an epedemic on colds. Joan and I both came down with severe colds on our way back home and are still bothered with them. I guess that excursion down into the low 30's was more than we could stand. We haven't been able to do much of anything for the last couple days.

Those were good seminars. Rob's alignment checking was great and went
along well with his material. That Lenzi was present for that added to the
great quality.
Martha and I aren't coughing. Must be the clean living or the wine we got
on the tour while at ES. Gene and Joan didn't get enough.
I'm writing this at present on our way to Milwaukee while parked at the
Flying J near Hebron, IN, Ken Burton's stomping ground. As soon as I hit
"send" I'm out of hear. Oh, how I'm looking forward to the many toll
booths between here and the Wisconsin State Fair RV Park.

So what is going on at MKE fair park to prompt your attendance? An RV thing or something else? Living in SE Wisc makes me nosy when I hear such a comment. <GRIN>

I think we should look into better ventating the main building where we all come together to spread the germs. Maybe crack a door on opposite sides. Problem is in sping and fall you are between heating and AC season and often things are off and it becomes stagnant. Seems like enough cases to look into it

As one who also came down sick at the rally, I hope I wasn't the pariah!
However, blaming Dan for licking the ice cream scoops (again?) sounds like a good idea!
