Apologies to all of the emailers!

Well, better late than never…

The recent GMC Eastern States rally was held at the Kentuckyiana Campground in Mackinaw, IL (near Peoria) on the three days preceding the International rally in Amana. There were 13 coaches, including members and guests.

Matt Colie gave a presentation on rebuilding the GMC starter motor, and Ken Henderson and John Shotwell gave a talk on recurving the GMC entrance door. Ken showed how Dan Winchester had done his (2x4, J rods, and a bottle jack), and John explained the GM setup as shown in one of their Technical Bulletins (blocks, and a come-a-long).

Bruce Hislop, (and bride Paula) from Ontario, Canada wanted to try the recurve process, but after much consultation, determined that he might have a different problem with his door.

The women had a good time creating fall crafts led by Kris Whisler, as well as getting an education on ETSY, an on-line venue for craftsmen and vintage wares. You can check out Kris’s storefront at ThePigsMeow at etsy.com.

The three day event included a winery tour at the Mackinaw Valley Vineyard, where we were treated royally to a tour of their facilities, and were then schooled in the proper way to imbibe wine. The tasting included seven varieties, and an extra special one at the end called Two Grandpa's (not sure of this name, as it was the 8th one we had consumed).

After the vineyard tour, we went to a local restaurant, Gil’s Country Inn, for dinner. Some of the attendees that didn’t go to the winery tour, sorta got lost coming to the restaurant, but finally did arrive (including one down-under couple).

As always, the food at the rally was great and plentiful, especially Martha and Byron’s pancakes and sausage (sorry about the SOB pic, but they DID supply the aforementioned breakfast!).

The weather was good, although a bit nippy at night. The campground was a great choice for this rally, as it was a perfect stopping place for those that were to continue to Amana.

A big thanks to the Whisler’s, and all the others that help make this a fun rally!

John,

Thanks for the update. We hated to leave so early, but GMCMI duties were
calling. :-)

The Whistlers sure did a bang-up job of taking over all the
responsibilities for that rally.

By the way, did you see and check the Registry for the two TZE's I
mentioned finding in Nashville?

John,

Looks like Helen and I missed a lot of the fun turning up late! Still enjoyed ourselves though (so what else is new)!
