I guess you know I have been working on hard lines for my 26
this is not easy
here are some hints I am collecting along the way(work in progress)

tanks - to Emery, Garton, and others, for their early work I have shown

I think :
* Every GMC will have to drop it's tanks --- (7000 - GMCs)
* more than once-- unless you go to all hard lines
* I did not know Emery used pre-made brake lines for his work (would have
saved a lot of time)
* I am not there yet,
* I think there is a place for a "parts" kit to do this (someone) I spent
weeks looking for parts

THERE IS MORE TO COME

Unfortunately I had to do other stuff today and we also had company.

Tomorrow who knows when I will get back from Chico. Then first thing Tuesday Rebecca wants to get the coach all ready for me to leave, so I probably won't get to look at it until almost Tuesday afternoon or not. Stuff keeps happening.

Sorry to hear that. You're due for your luck to change soon.

When I come over an we install you're new wireless air system in your 23' you'll feel better!

I'll feel a lot better when I get my gas tank back pressure issue fixed.

I did it all.
The fill vent lines are now separate to the cockpit floor.
The lines are all PolyArmour to the engine bulkhead except:
8" of 1/4 from a fuel filter to the Generator floor penetration.
2 - 10" pieces of 5/16 that connect to the vapor valve.
4 ~ 10" at the fuel tank selector. 4 because there is an inline filter after the valve.
All the rubber lines are Gates 4219 Barrier.
I used brass compression fittings to connect to the make tank connections and double flare for all the other connections. More joints were required than I have planned for because long lengths tubing could not be slid into place into place between the floor and the frames.

I am going to have to have the tanks down again....
The calibration of both sending units is way off - high.
I plan to correct that and maybe remove the pick up socks.
If possible, I will take and post pictures and diagrams, but that is very difficult to do when working alone.

I am going to put holes in the floor so the senders can be removed
- i did this in the 23 and it is a 5 min job to remove the senders (mine
are connected with short rubber lines)

Matt, we need to have a gathering of GMCs that want to drop tanks, for whatever reason, and help each other. Do nothing else but tanks , lines, senders, and holes in the floor, if wanted. Take lots of pictures and share with those who can't come. I know where there is a lift up near Indianapolis. We might bribe the owner into letting a few of us camp out there for a couple of days and get work done on some coaches.

I'm just about to dig into this project and have a connector question. I've followed all the fuel tank threads and it seems like double flares are the way to go, so my plans are to obtain the Eastwood flaring tool and give it a try (I am a little concerned about home-made flares on critical joints) and use a combination of flared joints and compression fittings as it seems to be the way to go. My question: Is there a preferred source/brand of brass compression fitting that is superior to others for this application?

Thanks in advance - couldn't do it (very well) without this forum and everyone's combined wisdom.

We can kick this around. I will see if the owner of the lift might give this some thought. We would need to get our parts lined up ahead of time. We will need different parts depending on what each of us want to do. There are differences in the years of coaches so owners need to know which layout they have. I have metal lines on top now but not what I want. Also I plan to install my in the tank fuel pumps, and cut holes, in the floor. Some may need sending units. Different ones will attach the lines to the senders diferently. I want to use rubber hoses on mine. My fill tubes are 6 years old. Don't think I will need them but some will. Jim K. has them.
We will start a new thread on this if very many folks are interested and I can get owner of lift to agree.

do not need to be double flares, no pressure

but the completed, poly brake lines, the flares are already done

-- for brake lines
-- all flares are done
-- only source for inverted flares

Poly Armor pipe is just excellent
but
- hard to flare (marks the cover)
- does not like to bend short (broke my bending tool)
- is tough stuff, but is really excellent on the long runs to the engine
we can get this done
only 7000 more coaches to go :>)

I built a lot of ground support equipment when I was worked for Hamilton Standard at the Johnson Spacecraft center.

I used mainly stainless steel and I never did a double flare on anything. This ground support equipment saw pressures up to 3000
psi.

The fuel lines on a GMC will not see pressure anywhere near that much (obviously) and double flaring is not necessary.

You do need a good flaring tool not one that squashes the tube in the clamping device and that's what you'll get from Eastwood!

The two compression fittings I used were made by Parker Hannifin and Swagelok; Google them to find suppliers.

The only place you really need to use flared fittings is in connections that will be taken apart; to join two long runs of tubing
attached to the frame a compression fitting is fine.

Keep in mind that automobile flared fittings have a 45 degree flare and aircraft flared fittings have a 38 degree flare.
