Keith and I would like to thank everyone that was able to attend the GMCMI Convention this past week in Amana, Iowa. We had a fantastic time planning and making our 30th Anniversary a big success. The GMC community is definitely special! Our last registrant drove in, enjoyed breakfast, airbag blows, GMC attendees to the rescue! Airbag replaced and the couple celebrated their 60th Anniversary the same day as our Anniversary Dinner. Now that has something to say about our members!

Already planning and working on ideas to make our GMCMI Spring 2013 Convention an event to attend. Put it in you calendar, today! March 22-28, 2013 in Dothan, Alabama!

Thank you and safe travels to everyone.

Good night...Keith and Kim Weeks

The members of GMCMI and the Board of Directors would like to thank Kim and Keith and all the volunteers for putting on a really great convention. They just seem to be getting better each year. We are already looking forward to our next one at Dothan, AL on March 22 to March 28, 2013.

We only missed because of health reasons or we would have been there. Hope to see all in the spring at Dothan.

Do you know that there is a West Coast in the USA and there are a lot
of GMC's out here also and we would like to not have to drive 1000 of
miles to attend, what up with this?

One of the best so far. I just talked with Jon, up in Mn. He was with us Wednesday. Anyway he stopped to help a GMC with a broken water pump, yesterday. They were on their way to the convention a week late. Still were coming to Amana even after learning they had missed the convention.
Thanks for the good time. Well organized. I heard no complaints except about the wifi. But, the wifi issue was not a huge one because everyone was enjoying the convention. When stuff was over in the evenings we were too tired to do much internet anyway. I tried to sneak the photos up during the day so they did not take away from my resting time at night. I was tired every night. That is a good kinda tired.
See you in 6 months.

Carleton,

We were at Shawnee. It was over a thousand miles and three road days.
The was a fellow from BC or Manitoba (I'm not sure which) that drove the whole way in a car and camped in a tent.
There is a couple that shows up at most conventions that comes in from Nova Scotia.
There is a convention in the works for Colorado, I hope that is not too very far for the west coast people to drive.
Don't even bother thinking about Dothan.
I really think that each member should publish what his travel limit is so the board can take that into consideration.

There is a nomination form on the GMCMI site. If you have a suitable location on the West coast, nominate it. Holding a convention all the way to any coast does not make a lot of sense since is reduces the geography of GMCMI members people that will attend. Not many members live out on the water of the tw Oceans or in Mexico of Cuba. That said I have attended recent GMCMI conventions on both East and West coasts. (Harrington and Santa Rosa) I have also attended rallies put on by GMC East and GMC West. We have one GMCMI attendee from Washington State that I have seen at almost every GMCMI rally I have attended regardless of location.

At Amana I saw Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta, California, Florida, and New York Plates so it looks like a more central location is a big draw.

So come on out no matter where it get's scheduled and nominate a suitable site closer to you if there is one.

I started this earlier in the day, but with the great fall weather
here I was outside doing some yard work and GMC work. Some of my
comments have already been presented and discussed by others.

It would be nice and convenient that rallies could be closer to where
you live. It just doesn't seem to work out that way. We have done 10
GMCMI rallies since 1999. Only 2 were close, just at 400 mile round
trip each. If I take the other 8 rallies and average the round trip
mileage is comes to about 1700 mile per rally. Matt is correct that
there are many that attend the GMCMI rallies no matter where they are
in the country. The cost for fuel is what it is! It is still cheaper
for us to go down the road in our coach seeing the USA and going
places that we have never been.

If there is a future rally in Denver we will go as the wife has only
been in that part of the Rockies for a short visit. I would also
think that the western clubs could be searching out locations and make
suggestions for GMCMI to come and do a rally closer to the left
coast. It is very tough finding locations that have the necessary
facilities and camping sites. The proposed spring rally in Tucson
would have been a good venue. In the past not so long ago a
fairground with limited facilities would have been a fine venue, but
today everyone wants full hook ups and that is hard to find at a price
that will keep rally fees at a reasonable level. We typically do 6
rallies a years here in GMCGL country. We plan our rallies for the
most part 6 months to a years ahead. We are fortunate that there are
a number of great fairgrounds with very good facilities along with
campgrounds that welcome groups. Our average cost per rally runs in
the $125 to $150 range and we have been averaging 38 coaches at each
rally.

So if you have a place that would me the needs for a rally be you
east, west, north , south or just in the middle send it on to the
GMCMI. I have rambled on enough!

It would be interesting to look at the project as a start from scratch project like a rock festival.

one large truck that has water hoses that would do 200 gmc's and also a honey truck that would do all 200

and do these any where, including wifi office and catering truck. If you have 200 people at $100. = 20,000 dollars.

I think a mobile convention circus like design could be done with this amount of investment.

Then the event could be put any where. Like salt flats. etc. Just need the area to put it all.

I have found large amounts of water hose from auctions from pomona fire department. like a mile or so

of 2 inch water hose for 500 dollars or so, fire truck for 2K, holds 500 gallons of water. A large water truck with

fiber glass tank in a pick up etc. sewer truck or porta potty rental. you can put these any where like circus soloie etc.

something to think about.

Well, people need to be able to get by without shore power. You can get
water and waste water services at Burning Man, and that is a long way from
anywhere.

the grand canyon seems like a draw, or gold panning on the sacramento river would be interesting. painted desert. new mexico seems interesting.

an indian reservation would be good. A water fall that is big some where, some where like vegas is a draw. Reno. these are a little cold in winter.

route 66 is a good way to go with the best weather on the road ends in santa monica, called the will rogers highway. any way central rules that is for sure

if you had as many as it sounds i wish i could see that. maybe next year. :-)

We have one GMCMI attendee from Washington State that I have seen at almost every GMCMI rally I have attended regardless of location.

You can not expect our members to "get by without power". People are used to plugging into electric and they are not going to dry camp. Most are older and need the electric power. Teri and I can camp for months with no power but that is our choice so we set the GMC up that way. No power means not many people.
We also went to Santa Rosa and would try to come again. I hear that the expense has gone way up so Santa Rosa is probably history. We also enjoyed Pueblo. Was only a 2 day trip, about 1000 miles. There are lots of things that are needed to have a GMCMI convention. Familiarize yourself with them and look for sites. We have enough complainers that would not attend if within 500 miles of their home. Working folks find it almost impossible to attend unless it is held in their back yard. Not much we can do about that.
We have a fine group of folks working very hard on these things. I know sometimes it looks like we don't care about the coastal folks but that is just not true. Help us if you can. Try not to just complain. I have been a complainer before so I point the finger at myself.
Looking forward to the next convention already. Hope fuel prices are down by then.
Dan

they could use a fire engine there it sounds like, a film generator rents for very little and could do it all.

The clubs could chip in for a system to go any where and get green day or something to play and make about

$100,000 dollars for donating to some charity for the group. We could do like farm aid, gmc aid, and have

lady ga ga play for gmc. m.

one flew over the gmc nest.

Mickey,
The GMCMI is a traveling show that is put on twice a year. It takes
at least one Semitrailer to move the Crates of supplies and materials
that the club moves to each rally. It takes 1 to 3 days to set up the
Kitchen and coffee area, display stuff, office and sound and computer
display equipment and they even have sinks and hot water system for
sanitation all thou it is not used at every rally. It takes at least
a day to inventory and pack everything back in the correct crate. It
is then shipped to the next rally site and stored for the next rally.
It is quite an operation if you have never been to a GMCMI rally.
Most of the officers are there 5 to 6 days before the start of the
rally. As for cost you can multiply the fees times coach entries and
you have what it cost for the rally. They had I think 157 coaches
times $360 equals $56520 and that does not include extra days and
other stuff. Please don't take this personally but the $20000 would
not get you in the gate and the cost to operate, maintain and move
this equipment (water, sewer and of course a power supply system)
would be prohibitive.

Maybe we should have all the GMCMI conventions as near as possible to the U.S. center of population - Plato MO. It would make it easier for the ice cream man to get there, although I think Dan and Teri are some of the ones who would go anywhere to attend. I wish I could, but Kathy's and my full time employment makes it impossible for us to make a convention that is more than three days away, and that's a stretch.

Somehow, I don't suspect that the average GMC
owner has much in common (certainly not age)
with the bunch that inhabits Burning Man. Many
of us would probably succumb, at least to some
extent, to the amount of sunlight and heat that
occurs there.

writing out loud. ideas about meetings - think tank, gas tank thinking, or mind making events of know nothing making sensing, ideaing buzz bombs etc.

It could be like an internet system live streaming with each meeting all over the world attached by fun line, or streaming internet

inter linking for all the members all over the world attached by internet and have local drive too, places with the members finding the center

of angle and radii to meet that agrees for those at each member tribal orbital to the singular main internet hosting with speakers at each and

a few small cameras to attach each with streaming live, ergo, big pow wow gmcing. call it , gmc super pow wow all clubs at once local to global sort of.

any way having them the way it is now is great for they all share info and they all share the fun and in a way just typing out the ordeal is an integration of

the meeting of all. Great feeling just to have the knowing this all happened. fantastic. The info and the video of the meetings would be really great to

be able to share and see the ideas. i am stoked to see how you all got along and learned so much with the windshield changes. i bought mine and

the passenger side windshield was broken and they had the replacement glass i had it put in with a company that was near miguels and they put it in

for $250 one side. It really did make a difference. How much was one side to be put in with you all?
